News from the Trade War Front.
There is still no indication as to whether the EU will be exempted from the steel and aluminum tariffs from the United States as of tomorrow.
But soon it will be, EU Commerce Commissar Cecilia Malmström, just returning from Washington, has met with US Trade Minister Wilbur Ross and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.
- I met Minister Ross and we hope he will recommend President Trump that the entire EU will be exempted. But we are not sure yet" said Malmström to the European Parliament's Trade Committee.

"No threat to the United States"
Whether it is via Twitter or in a press release as the message comes is still unclear. But Malmström is still hopeful that the EU's "strong argument and strong agreement" should have helped.
"We have always argued that this is not in accordance with WTO rules and that the EU should not be included (in customs). We are friends and partners and do not pose any threat to US national security, "said Malmström, while stressing that the EU has not negotiated with the United States" under threat ".

Until they take effect and afterwards after they do. Everything is subject to change. AKA negotiations :)

Doesn't Trump know about the concept Renegotiation?
There is already a deal between the US and the EU.
Apparently not since Trump starts with to "punish" the EU even before a renegotiation because Trump doesn't like the current situation.
Nah. Trump is an urod as they say in Russia.
And the problem is also that the US will lose jobs, not gain jobs.
Many of Trump's advisors say that but Trump won't listen.
No, They get fired instead!

Oh, The Genius from Karlstad just spoke about the "unfair" deal between the US and the EU.
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump
As a candidate, I pledged that if elected I would use every lawful tool to combat unfair trade, protect American workers, and defend our national security. Today, we took another critical step to fulfill that commitment.

But why does he always speak about the US trade deficit?
He always forget that trade include BOTH goods and services.
As for services the US has none trade deficit!

And yes Trump. We already know about the word Reciprocal!

This is one of the issues I am a) 100% in agreement with Donald Trump on and b) convinced only a political "outsider" could address, and was hoping that he would (he made it a campaign issue.) He may succeed or fail, but no one else has tried, or probably even would.

I'm not in agreement with tariffs between free nations on level playing fields, however it's beyond well-known that China uses prison labour extensively, aka slave labour. In addition, even the non-prison workers are also worked up to 16 hours a day, denied breaks, forced to pay for accommodations and food from their government-run employers and then given arbitrary "fines" for made-up infractions which end up equaling their wages so they are working for free. Here is one example. There are many more if one looks. It is impossible for a free developed-world labour market to compete with slavery.

This has been a human rights issue for decades, and I am surprised that so many who are pro-human rights aren't willing to "vote with their wallet" to pay a little more for some goods in exchange for bringing jobs home away from modern slavery, or even acknowledge the issue (I blame partisanship.)

(Yes, there is some prison labour in US prisons as well... maybe 1% or less as much as China's.)

Edit: Trump's China tariffs get bipartisan support, reflecting widespread U.S. disillusionment with Beijing

President Trump's decision to order some $50 billion in tariffs on a wide range of Chinese imports, despite the risk of setting off a wider trade war, met with bipartisan approval Thursday, reflecting the growing disillusionment with Beijing on the part of many American officials and business leaders.

...

Senate Democratic Leader Charles E. Schumer of New York, for example, praised the president Thursday morning in a Senate floor speech.

"Today he is doing the right thing," Schumer said, accusing China of "rapaciously" taking advantage of the United States. "They steal it," he said, referring to U.S. intellectual property, "and we do nothing."

A leading Republican, House Ways and Means Committee chair Kevin Brady of Texas, offered more nuanced praise.

"President Trump is right to take a hard line against China's dishonest trade practices, which have clearly harmed American workers," Brady said in a statement. "The challenge for every president, however, is how to punish China without harming our families, businesses, and farmers. Tariffs are taxes, so the next 30 days of input are crucial to make sure we don't punish American workers and families for China's misbehavior."

True Mr Kevvy
Three big Western companies are investigating allegations that prisoners in China made packaging bearing their brand names.
Household products group 3M, and fashion retailers H&M (Swedish) and C&A.
http://money.cnn.com/2018/02/22/news/companies/hm-3m-ca-china-prison-labor-allegations/index.html
How can any other country compete on those terms with a country with slaves.
Not only prisoners but also many workers from the poor parts in China are used as well living as slaves.
Trade war with China is very acceptable in my opinion.

However Trump starts his Trade War in two fronts at the same time.
China. That's OK.
The EU. What?... Unfair...? National security risks...?

Indeed.
China is the Eastern Front and Europe is the Western Front.
Sounds very ominous to me...

If I may make a prediction: Trump will consider the tariffs on the EU and decide against them. The EU will then be all smiles and back the tariffs on China, which they otherwise would not have.

I do like it when stupid politicians?? don't step back a little and put in a bit more thought.

Like;
Which stores sell these cheap Chinese imports I am about to impose tariffs on?
Who shops at these stores?
Who buys the cheapest items in these stores?
Could a lot of those customers be the poor white working class that forms the core of my support?
