In the USA, Truck Drivers and especially Unionized 'long haul' drivers make very good wages.

Unionized, yes, all others go broke. You really should get out once in a while.

Non-union, those of us who get out have seen the signs on the trailers, 18 cents a mile, looking for teams, O/O wanted, etc. They are not looking for a driver. They are looking for a tractor with a driver. So the poor shmuck has to upfront the cost of the tractor, license, insurance, fuel, permits, ... then he gets a contract that says the trailer has to be picked up on X date (never ready in the morning) and Y thousand miles away on Z date (crack of dawn) or you don't get paid at all! Take Y divide by Z - X and you find out you are expected to drive at the speed limit 16 hours a day. That's why you see independent truckers running 10 to 20 over the speed limit and god forbid you read their fake log books on behind the wheel time. Of course now his butt is Y thousand miles away, how long before he is able to find a load going anywhere near where he came from? Dead head is wasted money, it doesn't happen.

If the ending of the abuse of workers results in higher prices. So what!
Good luck with that

BTW, is your pension inflation linked? If not, you wouldn't be so cavalier with your "so what".

Sorry Mr. Pro Capitalist, Anti Worker Sirius B...

Well I am assuming that is being satirical. Which I have found over the years tends not to work well on forums as tone and expression in the voice are missing.

If not lets just confine ourselves to calling people by their posted name. Try being nice and respectful

I know that is difficult as it is so much fun to make up names (not)

I have never understood that, even politicians I tend to just call by their last name even those I do not agree with, like Trump. Does giving them silly names make them seem less frightening?

Well Trump has his trade war against the Chinese, but Ivanka is still allowed to make $'s from Chinese sweat shops, so there's more fuel to add to that up coming legal action.

How Ivanka Trump’s fashion line was exempted from her father’s war on Chinese goods.

This is certainly double standards.

Well it looks like the farmers in the Trump Belt are starting to feel the bite of this silly trade war and I wonder how long before those farmers start to bite back.

U.S. soy beans down 13% while pork is down 7% already and it's only early days yet, but others are stepping up to fill those gaps (and we don't mind at all).

Trump the Genius from Karlstad intensify his trade war!
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-44898629
US President Donald Trump says he is ready to intensify his trade war with China by slapping tariffs on all $500bn of imports from the country.
"I'm ready to go to 500," he said in an interview with the CNBC channel.
Mr Trump's comments come before the most recent round of US tariffs has had time to take effect.

So long as hotel and condo prices don't go down, he doesn't care.

Sanctions on Russia's Rusal could be lifted, Mnuchin says.
This is an aluminum company founded by a Putin-linked company.
Meanwhile the US want to keep out aluminum from US allies in Europe, Canada, Japan, etc. for “national security” reasons!

Maybe Putin does have a tape after all. With three more hush money women, we seem to know Rump thinks with his small head. Such people are very easy to compromise.

Message 1947973 - Posted: 5 Aug 2018, 2:14:36 UTC

CHINA has announced an $81 billion list of US goods including coffee, honey and industrial chemicals for retaliation, if Washington goes ahead with its tariff threat.

The Finance Ministry accused the Trump administration of damaging the global economy after it proposed increasing duties on $US200 billion ($A271 billion) of Chinese goods in the second round of a dispute over technology.

“China is forced to take countermeasures,” said a ministry statement. It said the retaliatory duties of 25 per cent, 20 per cent, 10 per cent or 5 per cent on 5207 products will be imposed “if the US side persists in putting its tariff measures into effect.”

Washington imposed 25 per cent duties on $34 billion ($A46 billion) of Chinese goods on July 6 in response to complaints Beijing steals or pressures companies to hand over technology. Beijing retaliated by imposing similar charges on the same amount of US products.

Earlier Friday, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman called on Washington to “come to its senses” and settle the dispute.
Now that's going to hurt some.
