Hello everyone. My host : http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8380124 Mainboard : Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 (http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Extreme4/index.fr.asp ) Like you see it have a 3D Vision GeForce 570 (2GDDR5) . I have a unused MSI GeForce 660Ti (2GDDR5) Can I put it on MB ? Of course no SLI between the card. First essential question : Win7 will accept it ? It are similar GPU, same drivers. If yes, can I assign a project to one card and a other project on the second card and lest SETI only run on CPU (it is already now on all my computers. |

That motherboard has two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, so yes, you can put both GPUs in there. Whether or not your PSU can handle and power both of them is something else. Via cc_config.xml you can set the GPUs up to run on any project but ignore the other. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration#Options <exclude_gpu> Don't use the given GPU for the given project. If <device_num> is not specified, exclude all GPUs of the given type. <type> is required if your computer has more than one type of GPU; otherwise it can be omitted. <app> specifies the short name of an application (i.e. the <name> element within the <app> element in client_state.xml). If specified, only tasks for that app are excluded. You may include multiple <exclude_gpu> elements. If you change GPU exclusions, you must restart the BOINC client for these changes to take effect. If you want to exclude the GPU use for all projects, look at the <ignore_ati_dev>, <ignore_nvidia_dev> and <ignore_intel_dev> options further down. Requires a client restart. |

If he has at least another PCIe x8 or even x4, go for it and fetch the other GPU in that slot. Full 16X posts are not required for crunching data (just like when minining criptocoins). If you need space to accomodate all the GPUs (because you run out of space on your MB or they are too much near between each other), then use some PCI raisers. You can buy those type of cables on ebay. Developing Content Management systems for the last 12 years.
