Message 1923260 - Posted: 8 Mar 2018, 7:42:34 UTC
Last modified: 8 Mar 2018, 7:44:27 UTC

I had stopped using boinc/worldcommunity grid/rosetta@home/seti on my home computer at the end of last year due to internet issues with my internet provider. I recently began a new relationship with a new provider and this week reinstalled boinc.

I have been able to download all projects that I was affiliated with except for SETI. I have tried for two days now and to no avail. Is there a server issue or what am I doing wrong?

I have ample space allotted on my CPU for Boinc.

I click update and only receive a message that my request is being deferred for X number of minutes and then nothing.

Please assist.

Many thanks.

Message 1923261 - Posted: 8 Mar 2018, 7:50:50 UTC - in response to Message 1923260.

WoW! I'm red in the face. I went to check my emails on final time tonight and then went to my boinc and there before my eyes, SETI was downloading.

I did not know how to delete my message, so I am leaving this response to say that all is well.

I am just glad to be back on board again.

Just to let you know there is always a Tuesday maintenance outage each week.

This week the outage lasted longer than normal and so it took a while for things to return to normal and downloading work was very slow.

Message 1923510 - Posted: 9 Mar 2018, 1:39:50 UTC

I have 5 "Windows" PC running but 3 are stuck in " No work available to process".
Been that way ever since the GBT bandwidth issue started.
Any throttling going on with "projects availability".
I've tried using the "Project Commands" options:
update & reset project - no change.
Obviously with "Windows" I've "rebooted" several times now.
Any clues?

Looking at the computers in your list there are 4 that have not connected to the project since the 11th, 10th 9th and 8th
So perhaps you have a connection issue.

I shut them down cause I never got a response back...
Why would I leave 5 PC's running if their not doing anything...

I was looking for a suggestion on a solution before powering them back on.
Telling me their not talking now, is no solution, I know why their not talking now...
It called no power...

Oh sorry just forget I said anything. Not sure how I was supposed to know that you had powered them down.

However what you will need to do is power on one of the problem machines and then copy and paste the fist 30 or so lines of the BOINC log here, so others can see what is happening and what may be the problem.

Open BOINC then Ctrl+Shift+E then "Copy All" and paste here.

Message 1924791 - Posted: 15 Mar 2018, 23:09:26 UTC - in response to Message 1924777.

So I powered up the PC's I had shutdown until a response.
Made sure that they updated the SETI web site at my "Account" under option "computers on this account".
Used the BOINC manager options: "Update" and "Reset project".
Watched the manger run through those routines.
After both routines finished it returned to:
"No work available to process".
SETI@home is the only BOINC project I'm running.
Now tell me how that is a communication issue?

So, just to check, what preferences do you have set at https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project, for Run only the selected applications?

Run only the selected applications AstroPulse v7: yes
SETI@home v8: yes

The same for all 6 PC's I have at home...
3 are running fine 3 are not..
I can even "suspend" BOINC manager or "No new task" and let all existing task complete , then resume "task" and all of those 3 go right back into "working" mode, processing tasks.
I tried the same routine on the other 3, still no change, "No work available.."

No tasks are available for Astropulse, that's correct. But does it also say no work available for Seti@Home?
Can you open BOINC Manager->View->Advanced view->Options->Event Log options...->check work_fetch_debug->Apply->Save, then do an Update on that PC on the project and post the corresponding log?

Will do... reply back shortly after it updates...
It does no tell me which project, just states: "No work available.."
In the BOINC manger screen under "Projects:" the only option is SETI...

Will do... reply back shortly after it updates...
It does no tell me which project, just states: "No work available.."
In the BOINC manger screen under "Projects:" the only option is SETI...

The reinstall of BOINC on the WIN8 PC did not fix a thing, came back up "stuck" again.
In fact read all the "old config info like it already knew this PC".
We know how "Windows" is, only 5% of all apps actually clean themselves out of a WIN install.

Is there a de-install switch to "clean out" BOINC from a Windows install?
