Message 1916495 - Posted: 2 Feb 2018, 17:09:10 UTC

Does anybody know why my project doesn't show up in the display for BOINC Manager on one of my computers? If I use Simple View, it shows up, but not in the Advanced window. My other two computers show the project just fine.

See below:

I notice on the Manager in question, there are no Column headings (Project, Account, Team etc).
In Advanced view, select Options, Select columns. For Projects, are any of those boxes selected? Even if so, try deselecting them, then OK, then reselect them & OK and see if that brings them back.

Good idea. I took a look at that, and everything was defaulted as selected. I unselected everything except status, clicked ok, and went back and reselected everything, but still the same result.

Can you post the Simple view and the active task list? Just to be sure what is really running.

Did you try to reinstall the Boinc on the host?

Did you try to reinstall the Boinc on the host?

And when you click on the Tasks tab, does it show any tasks there running or even waiting to run?

Think you need to reinstall BOINC. I assume the computer with no display is the one you linked the task in your last post. In your original post, both Windows machines show BOINC 7.8.3.

The task you linked shows BOINC 7.8.2. Not sure how you ended up with a 7.8.2 version which I don't see in the application history.

This is from your valid task received today.

It's definitely running.

Afraid not.
The big red circle with the line through it means that WU isn't running- in the manager screen shot you posted it shows "Suspended computer is in use"
When I set my Manager to Simple view, it shows a Green arrow
Even so, in Advanced view there should be something there in the Project tab.

That's here in your account, I was referring to the Manager in Advanced view to see if there are any tasks there that are running.

As Juan suggested, it'd try reinstalling BOINC over the existing installation.

Ah. Maybe check you only have 1 instance of BOINC installed and running?

I updated both Windows computers to 7.8.3, a few hours ago, so all my tasks are still from the old version.

The problem with seeing the project in Advanced View was happening before I updated, however. I noticed it yesterday.

Good point about the big red circle with the line through it.

I'll reinstall BOINC on the problem computer.

Ok, through Windows, I uninstalled BOINC, and then re-installed it via https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

I really thought that would fix the issue, but it's still the same, and when I try to add the project I've been running, I get the message that it's already in there.

Just a wild idea, don't have to do it but...

Uninstall boinc, moved seti@home folder to trash, empty. Then restart, redownload BOINC, reattach and HOPEFULLY it will resend lost work units. No Guarantee but I think I did this once and it fixed it..

Like I said, Last resort...

Maybe just detach & reattach first?

And triple check there isn't another copy of BOINC installed, somewhere...

Footnote on the red circle with the line through it... I just checked my other Windows computer, and in Simple View, it shows the same icon, but in Advanced View, it's showing the project, properly.

I agree, that's a good idea to check and see if there's another BOINC running, and I looked, but there's just one.

How do I detach from a project?

Well, if you could see the project in the advance view, then you would click on it and then in the left hand column you would see an option to detach from project (remove) .......But that would only be an option if you can see the project .....catch 22...

If anything fails, the best option is to reinstall all, from the beginning, do a totally new installation and not forget to delete the data files directory first.

Yep.

I just tested that out on my other Windows computer, and you're right, there's a "Remove" button, but unfortunately I don't have that in the case of my problem computer.
