You need to keep hammering on the network people to resolve the problem. 1.2Gbps is a fraction of the 10Gbps link you pay for. If they can't fix it soonest, I would ask for some pro-rated monies back for not meeting your contracted rate. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() |

Thank you for the update, Eric. Hope you can continue to get better support on the link. Meow! "Learn from yesterday. Live for today. Hope for tomorrow." Albert Einstein "With cats." kittyman ![]() |

. . Credit New isn't actually all that new now. It's been in force for 3 or 4 years or so.Actually, nearly 8 years. It was deployed at the same time, when I convinced David to deploy the v6.10 MB app for Fermi cards around May 2010 - and I still shudder at the chaos on these message boards after those cards had been released to retail, but NVidia hadn't communicated successfully with David about the need for, and requirements of, the new app. . . I knew it was already around when I joined, but not how long before that (hence the "or so"). . . I forgot how long ago I did join ... (getting old). It's been over 5 years already :) Stephen :) |

Regarding that, we were able to get 1.2 Gbps through the link this week. We're not sure yet if that's a fix, or a temporary improvement. . . Fingers crossed that it is afix ... . . Thanks for the update. Stephen :) |

Actually that link is paid for by the State of California and is not exclusive to Seti. https://cenic.org/ Also it seems as if the issues are closer to the Greenbank end 2000+ miles away. So the university is getting full bandwidth, the other end isn't and will have to pitch a bitch to their provider. Now if we could get an Internet2 cable to Puerto Rico ... |

Good information Gary, thanks. Yes, I do believe a post was made that said they thought the slowdown or restriction was at the Greenbank end. I assumed that SETI had a direct link to Greenbank that wasn't working correctly. If the link is shared among all the Universities in California, and the slowdown was seen by all, I would think the issue would have been resolved very quickly. It looks like the people at the Greenbank end need to light a bigger fire under the arses of the network people at that end. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() |

University personnel? Volunteers? Are they aware of the problem? Do they care that they or their provider are holding up the wheels of science and thousands of people? Does anybody have any influence or leverage with them? What can be done here? Anything? Or do we just have to sit here, complain and twiddle our thumbs? |

I thought Eric said the connection was running at about 1.2 Gbps this week. The well has gone dry with no work to do on the servers. ~Chris ![]() |

Crunch data mapping about asteriods meantime! Our biggest enemy for space travel for hundreds of years at least. Asteroids@home. No use drawing a map for somone if they will be killed on the first turn is it? |

Let everyone argue away... blah blah blah. Everyone has difference. If you want to crunch, crunch away. Im just suggesting a project. Return to SETI, as I will when things are repaired. Seems like it will be a while.... |

Crunch data mapping about asteriods meantime! Our biggest enemy for space travel for hundreds of years at least. Just tried to add the project to one of my Windows crunchers...BOINC failed to add it. Not sure why. I tried the forgot password deal but no account with my email address. Tried a longer password as well, that didn't work either. Guess I'll stick with my other 5 backup projects :-) ~Chris ![]() |

Yeah, connection is nearly flat dead right now. I've got better connectivity to Arecibo. Jeff's only got so much time this weekend and Matt is on tour again. Thinking about mounting a big spool of fiber on top of the Prius and laying a line to West Virginia. ![]() ![]() |

I'm still rather surprised that the connection hasn't been sorted out by the network people. If there is a recalcitrant router that is buggering things up, I would think the network people would have reconfigured routers along the path to route around the bad node. One would think that this "private organization," working in approximately the same area of science, would want to assist us in processing their data. Or am I being naive? Do they think S@H is not really science or not scientific enough to warrant their effort? Why can't the Green Bank people help us? No interest? Conflicting interest? Antagonism? Incompetence? Are any SETI@Home cerunchers among them? Surely SOMEBODY would be willing to help? If we all wrote emails to the powers that be at Green Bank would that help or make things worse? |
