Let us know if new hardware is needed Eric. We can certainly mount another donation drive as we proved there is earnest commitment to the project on the last one.

If we do have to go to shipping disk there will be lots of drives to buy, and an enclosure on each side of the country.

Yes, we understand. We did once before via the GPUUG hardware drive for Arecibo. We can do it again for GBT.

How about having SETI institute host? Do they have that capability?

Maybe Microsoft? Host it on one of their campus/towns. They probably move all that Green Bank data per minute...at least.

I got 59 tasks in progress, mostly GPUs, on my Linux box plus 54 pending.

Hello! Anyone like me that no new task available? I have nothing to work on!

Give it some time, work is being snatched up the second it is produced. The extended outage left a ton of machines dry, lots of catching up to do.

Probably several hours before any surplus is realized.

Thanks for reply, new tasks are available now :D

@Keith Myers
@Stephen "Heretic"

Hello,

thanke you for your answer's.
That was the missing information.
I just assumed that in the tool, in which one adds the projects, their weighting can also be changed.

Is this perhaps due to the loss of 'Net Neutrality'? This is the same government that thinks climate change / global warming means that 'We shouldn't get snow in the winter then!' Science isn't a priority for these idiots.

It's probably not a net neutrality issue, because this mostly (or entirely) goes over non-commercial (state or federally run) research networks.

Jeff's been converting some more old but unanalyzed files, and Matt is going to try and grab some more data tonight.

Related to Green Bank ... What did you find with the Slow splitting and deletion of GB data?
It appears the system has got back up to normal speeds.

. . Again, thanks for the update.

. . But this issue has raised a question in my mind, how are we (you) going to get the data from Parkes to Berkeley. I doubt we have access to your Network2 grid and a slow boat across the Pacific would not be very effective, unless they save the data up and ship a big box full across :)

Qantas flies to Los Angeles with big planes. Maybe some space can be found aboard for our disks, they are not too heavy.

The returned-per-hour numbers are way down, by about 30,000.
When they get back up to 130k+ then we'll see how well things hold up.

. . If there is a problem with the cost of data transfers I wonder how the cost of air freight would be received ...

. . I would expect it would be way less than $100 per terabyte but expensive nonetheless.

Hey now be nice to the network people! I was Network + Certified before arthritis relegated me into early retirement! It's not the easiest job! and tough to get into! Besides it's probably "THE DARK WEB" at work! We just need a Jedi to combat it! LOL!
Those who fail to remember the past are DOOMED to repeat it!

We found no obvious reasons why it occurred, nor why it stopped occurring. It could have been related to slow inserts or queries due to the size of the result and workunit tables in the BOINC (mysql) database. I changed some db_purge settings to increase delete speed, but I don't think that solved the problem.

Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.
