When PooTin's corrupt regime collapses, it will be sudden and swift.

All just a question of how soon?

I don't think world citizens have to fear WW III. But Russians must fear the violence Putin's troops are perpetrating in Ukraine. The surviving soldiers and mercenaries will return to Russia. Many of them will be experienced soldiers then, blunted by war atrocities, mentally stressed, in need for money, betrayed by their government. They'll return into a shrinking economy where jobs for soldiers, especially war invalids will be scarce. Thousands of illegal assault rifles, hand grenades, explosives will stream back to Russia too. Still to this day weapons from the Balkan wars in the 1990ies circulate on Europe's black markets. That will create a multitude of social problems for Russia but also a challenge for the rest of Europe. After the collapse of the USSR in 1991 the West tried to stabilize the country with billions of dollars, payed to remove wrecks of nuclear submarines polluting the environment... The fast disintegration of the empire couldn't be stopped. After the inevitable next collapse: whats the policy this time? Trying to stabilize a Russia that has been shaped by Putin's aggressive propaganda for 20 years? What are the chances of success? How to support the buildup of a democratic, peaceful Russia which no longer represents a threat to its neighbours? There's no democratic tradition in Russia (except from 1991 - 1994...9) when Oligarchs and Mafia seized power and ordinary people learned that democracy and freedom results in empty shops, a collapsing economy and poverty. It was the new Czar Putin who solved the people's problems. That's the Russian tragedy.

I think for us the main problem will result from a potential collapse of central power. Regional authorities (or Oligarchs or the Mafia) may replace Moscow's rule. Maybe for some chaotic months or for a long time. Who knows? Nuclear weapons are stationed far away from Moscow, smaller ones surely at different places (navy or airforce bases). Who will physically control these places? That's frightening. Then there's the large nuclear industry with stockpiles of all kind of radioactive materials and even larger remains of abandoned soviet nuclear research & industry. Russians aren't known for cleaning up abandoned military or industrial installations from hazardous materials. Who will control those places? Maybe nobody if people have to deal with their basic needs food, goods, money. People may start to make money with nuclear stuff, know-how, materials. And Putin's aggression gives any reasons to foreign countries to spend all their money to acquire own nuclear weapons. That's what frightens me most... the long time consequences of Putin's idiotic war.

It was overthrown when PooTin kept Lukashenko in power.

Russian Official Warns of Plot to Overthrow Belarusian Government.

A high-ranking Russian official is warning that Belarusians who are fighting on Ukraine's side against Russia might attempt to overthrow their own government.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin told Georgian TV network RTIV that the rhetoric of "Belarusian nationalist formations" fighting as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donbas region "has become significantly tougher."

"The leaders and commanders of these cutthroat mercenaries openly say that in the future they plan to use their combat experience to forcefully overthrow the current Belarusian leadership," Galuzin said. "In this regard, one cannot rule out the possible transfer of such sabotage groups to the [Belarusian] Republic."

He implored Belarusian law enforcement agencies and special services, supported by the Regional Grouping of Forces (RGV), to take such risks into account and "repulse 'pinpoint' provocations and the enemy's full-scale invasion of the territory of Belarus" if necessary.....
And this won't make the little despot any happier.

Russian State Media Attacks PooTin's War for First Time.

...Putin, a week into the war, pledged that injured men could claim compensation of three million rubles ($50,000), saying in March 2022 that it's "our duty to support the families of our fallen and injured war comrades."

But in April, Russia's defense ministry published a statement on its website saying that to be eligible for compensation, injuries sustained needed to be among those on an official list—a move that came as reports emerged that Russia was sustaining heavy casualties in battle.

Sergey Abramov, a resident of Krasnoyarsk who was sent to fight in Ukraine's contested Donetsk region toward the end of 2022 after three months of training, told RIA Novosti that he was shell-shocked, hospitalized, and subsequently diagnosed with mine blast injuries and acubarotrauma (damage to the membranes).

Despite his injuries, Abramov said he is being refused compensation, as another hospital wrote a letter saying that he had suffered an "acute reaction to stress." He has appealed to a military prosecutor's office.....
Fancy ripping his cannon fodder off.

Yes, he is a puppet but Belarus still doesn't "belong" to Russia. So far, Lukashenka resisted massive Russian pressure to lead his army into the war (western diplomacy will also have clearly explained the consequences to him). He performs aggressive maneuvers, threatens, rattles his sabers. But ultimately, he's not sure what would happen if he ordered his military leadership to intervene in Ukraine. He doesn't know if this would trigger a military coup that would sweep him away. And Putin will know that as well. In Putin's notebook it is now written: "Reform and integrate the Belarusian army into a new Great Russian Imperial Army". Putin failed to prepare this in time, as he was sure the Russian army would be enough to annex Ukraine. Bad luck. :-)

Ouch.

Quite rightly no applause there. Similarly so at the same foreign ambassadors' ceremony previously after Putin invaded Ukraine.

That is quite a snub from the expected protocol.

Personal aside:

I really do simply automatically feel, and have a look of disgust, upon the sight of either Putin or Trump.

So just as well that I'm not an ambassador!!...
