Today a Russian court convicted a Norwegian man of gathering espionage about submarines and jailed him for 14 years.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-47947895
63-year-old Norwegian, Frode Berg, will now spend 14 years in a strict-regime labour camp.
Some of the evidences are photos found on Frode's mobile phone.

‘Putin is a fantastic expletive, Putin is a fantastic expletive,’
First Russian Found Guilty Under ‘Disrespect’ of Authorities Law – Reports
https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/civil-society-and-media/2019/04/first-russian-found-guilty-under-disrespect-authorities-law-reports
Russian authorities have issued the first guilty verdict under a new law criminalizing “blatant disrespect” toward the authorities for online posts calling President Vladimir Putin an expletive.
A Novgorod region court 570 kilometers northwest of Moscow found a local resident guilty and fined him 30,000 rubles ($470) Monday for posts calling Putin “a fantastic f––” two days after the legislation went into effect. Critics say the law that fines first-time offenses and jails repeat offenders for up to 15 days for insulting state symbols and the authorities stifles free speech.
“On March 31, Kartyzhev shared two public posts on social media with text reading ‘Putin is a fantastic expletive, Putin is a fantastic expletive,’” a judge is heard saying in a YouTube video shared by a user named Yury Kartyzhev. The court database lists Yu.D. Kartyzhev as the defendant in the case.

Apparently Russians want strong leaders. The stronger the better... And perhaps Putin is not strong enough...
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2019/04/16/stalins-approval-rating-among-russians-hits-record-high-poll-a65245
Seventy percent of Russian respondents told the Levada Center in 2019 that Stalin played a positive role for Russia. Stalin’s previous record approval rating stood at 54 percent in 2016.
A record low of 19 percent viewed Stalin’s role negatively, down from 32 percent in 2016.

So how is the future of Russia?

Today it's Victory Day in Russia to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War.
In Stockholm it was commemorated already last Sunday.

It's weird to see the old red Soviet flag with the hammer and sickle flying here...

Whaledimir - or Hvaldimir as he is named in Norwegian - the Russian beluga whale with a harness labelled "Equipment St. Petersburg"

https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/security/2019/05/here-northern-fleets-secret-marine-mammal-program
The beluga whale wearing a harness with mounts for a GoPro camera that first was spotted by local fishermen on Norway’s Barents Sea coast in late April is still swimming around in the harbor of Hammerfest.
Today the beluga is stripped free from the harness, but is refusing to leave his new life of freedom in Norway. Experts say the whale will likely not survive without being fed by humans.
Maybe ‘Whaledimir’ was not at all on an alleged spy mission, but simply escaped from the pens from where he was trained?
Was ‘Whaledimir’ really swimming all by himself to the western coast of Finnmark in Norway, or was he brought there on board a submarine or another kind of vessel before he decided to escape from his employer?
What kind of secret underwater installations do Norway have on the coast to the Barents- or Norwegian Seas in the area that could be of interest for Russia’s Main Directorate for Deep Sea Research?

Apparently Russia think that making a TV series about the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster is disinformation unless it's not made by Russians. So Russia decide to do their own version:)
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2019/06/04/putins-media-struggle-to-deal-with-hbos-chernobyl-a65866
The fact that an American, not a Russian, TV channel told the story about our own heroes is a source of shame for pro-Kremlin media.Russia’s NTV channel has already announced that it is shooting its own “Chernobyl” series based on the premise that the CIA sent an agent to the Chernobyl zone to carry out acts of sabotage.

Russia and US warships almost collide in East China Sea
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-48553568
Both blame each other of course but in my navigation book the Russian ship that approach from starboard side have the right of way.
The US ship should've turned right and passed behind the Russian one.

Police Detain Over 400 in Moscow During Protest Over Reporter’s Arrest
After investigative journalist Ivan Golunov was released on Tuesday, protesters’ focus turned to those responsible for his detention.
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2019/06/12/police-detain-over-400-at-moscow-protest-march-in-support-of-journalist-a65972
"No protesters were violent or behaved badly, what I could see. The rulers dare not tolerate any discontent from the public." says SVT's [Swedish state TV] correspondent Bert Sundström, who watched the events.
One of the arrested is a young man who was dragged away by the police in the middle of an interview with Bert Sundström.

Putin’s personal approval rating has decreased in Russian polls.
So what to do...

As a result of the new wording, the number immediately skyrocketed from 30.5% – the lowest since 2012 – to an impressive 72.3%.

Of course. All countries have polls. Then it's up to the viewers of a poll if it's valid information or not...
And the US has the same problem.

"Direct Line with Vladimir Putin"
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2019/06/20/highlights-putins-annual-question-answer-session-a66089
The marathon Q&A session has become a yearly tradition during Putin’s nearly two decades in power, giving the Russian president a chance to shape narratives around pressing issues.

On whether he has become tired of the presidency
“No, otherwise I wouldn't have run for this term."

Responding to the question if Russian President Vladimir Putin was an alien, he said 'No' stressing that he had evidence, and his children could be witnesses.

Another submarine accident in Russia.
This time "Losharik" "Лошарик" that is a ultra secret submarine.
https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/security/2019/07/fishermen-witnessed-nuclear-submarine-drama#.XR2G2hGhJNR.twitter
http://www.hisutton.com/Spy%20Sub%20-%20Project%2010831%20Losharik.html
Losharik is designed to operate on the ocean floor, front-mounted flood lights, remotely operated arms for manipulated equipment, and retractable ski feet for sitting on the seabed. Although described as a scientific research submarine, she is assigned to the Main Directorate for Deep Sea Research, known by its Russian acronym GUGI.
One task is to monitor or destroy power and communication cables between countries.

Russian authorities had repeatedly denied responsibility for the release of the ruthenium-106 isotopes.
Mysterious Radioactive Cloud That Blanketed Europe Traced to Russian Nuclear Facility
https://www.sciencealert.com/origins-of-mysterious-radioactive-cloud-blanketing-europe-finally-pinpointed
The probable culprit behind a mysterious cloud of radioactive particles detected floating above much of Europe in 2017 appears to have been identified.
The radiation spike – in the form of an extremely high airborne concentration of the radioactive isotope ruthenium–106 – was detected by scientists in October 2017, but the source of the dramatic radiation surge (almost 1,000 times normal levels) was never definitively confirmed.
While the airborne radioactive matter released was not harmful to human health, it nonetheless constituted the most serious release of radioactive material since the Fukushima accident in 2011 – with maximum values of 176 millibecquerels of the isotope per cubic metre of air.

Russian motto "Moscow first"
Protesters protesting against massive garbage dumping in northwestern Russia ( 2.3 million tons annually from Moscow Oblast) - for what they themselves describe as an environmental disaster - have asked Sweden, Norway and Finland for help.
"Our country is drowning in garbage," they write in an open letter to the leaders of the Nordic countries.
"We no longer believe that the leaders of our country will hear us and ensure our constitutional right to live in habitable conditions"
When asked by President Vladimir Putin on the matter, he said that Moscow cannot be flooded with garbage, but that residents must be taken into account.
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2019/07/31/russian-landfill-opponents-seek-scandinavias-help-in-averting-eco-crisis-a66643
In the event of any accident at a future landfill, the aquifer will be polluted and decomposition products will end up in the North Dvina artesian basin, which, according to scientists, will result in pollution of all groundwater in the European part of the Russian Federation, as well as in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe.

Well sh*t happens now and then but three times in one week!
Russia Says New Weapon Blew Up in Nuclear Accident Last Week
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-08-12/russian-says-small-nuclear-reactor-blew-up-in-deadly-accident
The failed missile test that ended in an explosion killing five atomic scientists last week on Russia’s White Sea involved a small nuclear power source
The blast occurred Aug. 8 during a test of a missile engine that used “isotope power sources” on an offshore platform in the Arkhangelsk region, close to the Arctic Circle
“Everyone has been calling and asking about iodine all day,” says a pharmacy employee the day after in the nearby port city of Severodvinsk to the local news site 24.ru.
A family watches an explosion at a military depot near the city of Achinsk in eastern Siberia's Krasnoyarsk region on Aug. 5, 2019

In July, 14 sailors died in a fire aboard a nuclear-powered submarine in the Barents Sea in an incident on which officials initially refused to comment.

30 Russian naval vessels stage show of force near coast of Norway
https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/security/2019/08/30-russian-naval-vessels-stage-show-force-coast-norway
In an interview with broadcaster NRK, Norway’s Defense Chief Haakon Bruun-Hansen says the objective of the exercise is to block NATO’s access to the Baltic Sea, North Sea and the Norwegian Sea.
«This is an exercise where Russia seeks to protect its territory and its interests by deploying highly capable ships, submarines and aircraft with the purpose of preventing NATO of operating in the areas,» Brunn-Hansen says.
«Any allied attempt to strengthen Norway becomes very difficult,» he explains.

Putin motto “I deny, therefore I am”. As for nuclear disasters in Russia and former Soviet. They never happen according to Kremlin. Well they do! As for the last incident in the weapons testing facility in Nyonoksa on the coast to the White Sea located some 25 km west of Severodvinsk. One doctor was reportedly later found to have a radioactive isotope in their muscle tissue.

Russian doctors say they weren’t warned patients were nuclear accident victims
https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/security/2019/08/exclusive-russian-doctors-say-they-werent-warned-patients-were-nuclear-accident
The events bring to mind a chilling scene in the recent HBO miniseries ‘Chernobyl.’ When the first patients arrive at a local hospital after the accident, doctors begin treating them without protective gear. One cautious nurse explains that their clothes should be burned, but the doctors are depicted handling the toxic items with bare hands.
“It’s exactly like the show’s creator said,” one of the doctors said, referring to a tweet from Craig Mazin three days after the Severodvinsk explosion. “Thirty-three years later and our government hasn’t learned a thing. They keep trying to hide the truth.”
