What kind of news stories are Russian TV viewers consuming? https://twitter.com/BBCSteveR/status/955321503662436352 Some of the topics are http://www.russialies.com/ The scary thing is that most Russians belive the stories... Hopefully we in West don't. Fake KGB agents, fake terrorists, and "sodomy and incest as a European norm" - the toxic cocktail of pro-Kremlin disinformation in one portion. https://twitter.com/EUvsDisinfo/status/954995125255659520 |

As I have said. Tsar Putin? Clyde, so you really think Putin want a new Civil War in Russia and losing his power? But he is not silly and will not destroy existing system of his presidency. Now, majority of Russian population are sure he is better candidate on the next presidential elections (not because he is brilliant but because other candidates are much worse), but also majority of Russian population absolutely don't want any monarchy. |

The release of historical British satire The Death of Stalin in Russia has been barred by the country’s culture ministry, with one official describing the film as “idealogical warfare†Russian media outlets have since reported that government lawyers had appealed to Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky, claiming that the film was inciting “hatred and enmity, humiliating a Soviet citizen, and propagating the inferiority of that person on the basis of his social and national identity.†https://www.calvertjournal.com/news/show/9550/kremlin-bars-british-satire-the-death-of-stalin-from-russian-cinemas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXIV0CpYl7I Imagine Germany cancelling a movie release because it is offensive to Hitler, that's pretty much what happened here. |

The Russian continuous history of an Authoritarian and Lawless Ruler and System of Government. Not quite true Clyde. Tsar Alexander II is one the Russian Tsars that wasn't an Authoritarian and Lawless Ruler. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_II_of_Russia He was ruling the Grand Duchy of Finland and he is known as Alexander the Liberator https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Duchy_of_Finland#The_Crimean_War_and_the_1860s%E2%80%931870s I wouldn't say that Jeltsin and Gorbatjov was an Authoritarian and Lawless Ruler either. Vladimir "Vova" Putin however. And this is today... Edit: Breaking, sort of. Russia’s Brain Drain on the Rise Over Economic Woes — Report Each year, an estimated 100,000 Russians emigrate to developed countries, around 40% of whom have a higher education, RANEPA reported on Tuesday. https://themoscowtimes.com/news/russias-brain-drain-on-the-rise-over-economic-woes-report-60263 |

Remember the Russian world-renowned performance group Pussy Riot who was attacked by whip-wielding Cossack militia in Sochi 2014? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNB3N6DWVTs Now two of the members, Aleksej Knedljakovskij and Lusine Dzjanyan, have applied for asylum in Sweden after an increasingly brutal persecution in their country of origin. https://www.svt.se/nyheter/inrikes/medlemmar-i-pussy-riot-soker-asyl-i-sverige https://translate.google.se/translate?sl=sv&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.svt.se%2Fnyheter%2Finrikes%2Fmedlemmar-i-pussy-riot-soker-asyl-i-sverige&edit-text=&authuser=0 |

A Russian art house cinema defied a government ban on Thursday to screen satirical film ‘The Death of Stalin’ to a packed audience that included at least two people who said they witnessed the Soviet dictator’s funeral six decades ago. Ella Katz said she attended the funeral when she was in third grade. “[The film] is not offensive. How could it be? How? ... The reality was much more terrifying than in this film,†she said. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-russia-film-stalin/russian-cinema-defies-official-ban-to-screen-stalin-satire-movie-idUSKBN1FE2BE |

Hello... Milos Zeman phoned President Putin to congratulate him on winning the Czech Elections. The 73-year-old Zeman is personal friend of Vladimir Putin. |

Russian opposition leader Alexi Navalny arrested as thousands protest against Putin. Three or five hours and he will released. Not the first time, even not the tenth. Again, as usually, he has organized the demonstration not in that place of town in which it is authorized. |

Igor, why do demonstrations have to be authorized? Wikipedia: Demonstration_(protest) --------------------------------------------------------------- United States A growing trend in the United States has been the implementation of "free speech zones," or fenced-in areas which are often far-removed from the event which is being protested. [...] In many areas it is required to get permission from the government to hold a demonstration. --------------------------------------------------------------- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demonstration_(protest)#United_States |

Not only that. Russian election commission has formally stopped Russian opposition leader Aleksej Navalnyj from standing in the presidential elections in March. The government voted on last Monday and concluded that Aleksej Navalnyj is not authorized to stand in the election. The reason given is that Aleksej Navalnyj has been sentenced to jail in an embezzlement case, a sentence that Navalnyj himself believes is politically motivated. Sitting President Vladimir Putin will be in the presidential election for the fourth time and is expected to be the winner of the election on March 18th. Aleksej Navalnyj has previously stated that he will campaign for the election to be boycotted, unless he is allowed to stand up. He is considered to be the opposition figure that is most likely to threaten Vladimir Putin's power. Aleksej Navalnyj will appeal against the decision that he is suspended. |

Igor, why do demonstrations have to be authorized? Igor your citation does not address my question. What you have cited has been overturned in court when challenged. Could you please answer my question? |

Igor your citation does not address my question. I don't understand why do you ask me. In my post about Navalny, I wrote about an authorized places for demonstrations, not about an authorization of demonstrations. |

Russian President Vladimir Putin knew that Russian athletes were doped during the Olympic Games in Sochi, he also knew how the fraud went on. It claims the man who organized and carried out the biggest doping scandal in the OG's history. Grigorij Rodtjenkov, former Laboratory of Russian Anti-Doping. Rodtjenkov tells in a new interview that he himself was an informer of the Russian intelligence service FSB at the time around the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014. He says he was proud to fool the other countries through the advanced doping bluff. Rodtjenkov sneaked into the laboratory at night and, with the help of FSB, he exchanged athletes' samples for pure urine, after having previously given them a cocktail of forbidden substances. And all that was done, Rodtjenkov claims, knew Russian President Vladimir Putin about. - Of course, it came from the highest point, from the president. Only the president could get the FSB to participate in such a specific task, "said the former anti-doping manager. https://translate.google.se/translate?sl=sv&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.svt.se%2Fnyheter%2Fgranskning%2Fug%2Fvisselblasaren-putin-visste-allt-om-dopningen-av-idrottarna-i-sotji&edit-text=&authuser=0 |

Russian Su-27 photographed closely from Swedish signals intelligence aircraft. Photo: TT A couple of years ago a Russian military aircraft was near to collide with passenger aircraft over Scandinavia's busiest airport Kastrup in Copenhagen. Last summer a Russian SU-27 fighter jet flown extremely close to a Swedish signals intelligence aircraft over the Baltic Sea in international air space. Same day a SU-27 flown extremely close to an American signals intelligence aircraft allegedly only 5 feet from each other also over the Baltic Sea. Now the same thing over the Black Sea also only 5 feet from each other. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-42866585 There are propably more of these incidents! In all cases the Russian defence ministry, said the flight path of its planes was "in accordance with the international rules for the use of airspace to stop foreign planes from violating the Russian Federation's airspace". |

Tere! Estonia is getting ready to celebrate the 1918 Declaration of Independence next month. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estonian_Declaration_of_Independence Meanwhile Putin has renamed the 23rd Air Force regiment to ТаллиннÑкий полк “The Tallinn Regiment†after the Estonian capital, Tallinn. The move is certainly provocative towards Estonia, considering the Soviet air force in March 1944 bombed several cities in Estonia, including Tallinn, and almost completely destroyed the town of Narva in the northeast of the country. https://upnorth.eu/kremlin-intimidation-putin-renames-air-force-regiment-tallinn-regiment/ How would Putin react if NATO named a unit after Königsberg, today Kaliningrad? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6nigsberg Isn't this blyatiful! |
