I'll never purchase one of those. Just curious about the cost/benefit calculations. . . Well I could if I mortgaged the house ... :) . . From what Petri had to say there are a lot of pluses, but he didn't mention how hot they run, or not as the case may be. I especially like that they are slimmer and allow more ventilation, that has to be a good thing, though even 1080ti's are slim enough if you kick off the standard cooler and go water cooling. I would like to go Nitrogen cooling but that must cost an arm and a leg. :) Stephen :) |

I just pulled up some of your tasks and they got displayed quickly. Looking at anyone else with several thousand tasks in any category is painfully slow, if the page ever populates. . . That was exactly what I was thinking ... . . Where did you get the details on how hot they run? Stephen ? ? |

13 tasks to come in, none of them do. . . The upload/download servers have been somewhat flaky since the last outage. They have gone into Limbo on me just this morning (AEDT) and I had to give then a manual kick start but that did the trick. Stephen :( |

Gamer's Nexus did a review. (I like to watch and see if he screws up and destroys any more GPUs. ) Sometime's it painful to watch, other times there is something useful in what they do. |

I haven't seen any data anywhere so far about how hot they run doing a compute load. They have the same 250W TDP as previous card families in the top models. My 1080Ti's have the same 250W TDP and only run around 50-60% of TDP which puts the wattage consumed right around the 130W figure Petri quoted. The chip is based on the new 12nm TSMC feature size and that is smaller and less power hungry than the previous 16nm feature size of the 1080Ti, so it may in fact run cooler. I like Steve's Channel a lot. I like the technical details. Not sure what he screwed up though. Are you talking about the deliberate overclocking on motherboards and APUs he did recently to show that you can't believe software and BIOS settings and that you need to check actual voltages with a digital multimeter to know what exactly is being delivered to a component? I thought was very illustrative and helpful and something I did myself in the early days of Ryzen. No, I was referring to when he first started and was trying to disassemble a GPU with standard tools from his trucks toolbox. Stripping screwheads and breaking off posts. I think I posted a link a long time about with the label "How NOT to disassemble a GPU". There are some other videos where it's just painful to watch him mod GPUs. I think he put on an AOI cooler with the piping coming out of the front rather than from the top. He's gotten a lot better since then. |

Next book ares 8a looks interesting. tablet specs My Amazon Kindle Fires do pretty good, especially the quad cores. Would allow you to keep posting. That tablet looks good for the price and doesn't lock you into the closed Kindle software store. The Kindle 7 is cheaper at $50 though. Hmm. The daily server hiccup has moved back to it's original time. Grant Darwin NT |

Stayed at the same time here.. I've been away for a week, so it might have happened back then. But it's definitely moved back to it's original time from what it had been before I went on holidays. Edit- or not. Being on holidays makes the memory not nearly as good as it was. Particularly with things such as dates, and times. Grant Darwin NT |

Check yer downloads, folks. While I was sitting here, my GPUs stopped crunching. Had a look-see, and all my downloads were in big backoff land....the whole GPU cache. Probably from the server's nightly entanglement. Had to kick them loose. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Check yer downloads, folks. Yeah, it's all good now. The server entanglement occurs every night after midnight CST. The download backoffs just did not run out, so my whole cache was still waiting to download. One kick, and they all came through very well. No changes in the server glitch here. Still occurs just after 11PM PST or 7:00 UTC. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Anyone else having trouble pulling up the Results pages? It was Slow a little while ago, now all it does is sit there loading. Seems there is a 48 minute delay on the SSP too, https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_server_status.php |
