Wonderful! A ST reference for the old-folk. That should be V'ger.

Glad to see not only do we have new work, but it's back to the previous longer GBT WU processing times. That'll help reduce the load on the servers, and make the work last that much longer before it all gets split & crunched.

. . Umm, I think that is the "old data" that was referred to. It seems it was GBT data not Arecibo. But it is the older 2 bit GBT stuff that is why it is longer running, if you note there is no 0 in the task names except for the (I've not seen/noticed any of these before) Blc0... tasks, and I was interested to see that they are Voyager1 related ...

. . It seems the new header/format that makes the latter work faster to process was not compatible with the old 2 bit files and thus the delay in them appearing on the splitters.

. . But it will reduce the load on the upload servers and other hardware while they last.

Don't think any of the 'old data' Jeff was trying to massage made it to the splitters other than the one 21GB file early yesterday morning. At least based on Eric's comment that the pre-process of the 'old data' ran into snags.

I've been seeing plenty of the old 2003 Arecibo data since work was reloaded Monday morning.

. . If you look at the dates of the current work you will see it is from January and February of 2016.

. . But judging by the run times, which though I expected them to be much as they used to be they are in fact are only about 10% to 15% longer than contemporay GBT tasks, I am guessing they solved the header or pre-processor issue.

. . I will have to have a closer look, I hadn't noticed any Arecibo work that old ...

I was mistaken, it was a 2007 tape. No, you were asleep when they loaded the one Arecibo 2007 shorty tape Monday morning around 1930 UTC. It lasted less than an hour. Got a couple of AP's out of it.

There was also a shorty AO tape from yesterday 05Feb18 loaded briefly. The ones we got later and are splitting must have come down from the intermediary Google Cloud that they are having to use until they figure out what has happened to their Internet2 connection to GBT.

Wow indeed. That one really surprised me with the short length. Was it because the databases were unusually small because of the lack of work since Friday?

I had an issue with stuck downloads. Kept at it through half a dozen retries and the dam finally broke through.

Short, sweet and all caches were filled within 20mins of coming back online today.

Cheers.

'Ready to send' was well filled before we started, and these new tapes seem to be crunching for longer - it all helps.

That sounds suspiciously like the 'contempt bred of familiarity'...........

The Arecibo data from the observation run Saturday is paying out nicely, like the Arecibo data of old.

So it does appear that the estimated flops on the Breakthrough splitters are WRONG!

. . I wish I could say the same, most of the limited Arecibo work I am getting is on GPUs and is getting scores more like the GBT work. An occasional task will rise to the rarefied heights of high seventies. Aint technology wonderful .....
