Definitely it's a seller's market.

Yeah, couldn't believe it, was looking at the 1070Ti as being a more cost effective option for a computer I am upgrading, and took a look around yesterday. Holy shades of mid-2017, Batman! There was _nothing_ available. At least at 'retail' prices. Again as before, no way I am paying those prices for that hardware, I'll wait it out again and let the dust settle. PPl are crazy.

I thought the value of bitcoin took a nosedive and this madness was over.
Guess I was misinformed.

Or the AIB's worked through the stash of failed/binned 1080 chips that Nvidia had accumulated and sent on to the AIB's to make into 1070Ti cards. Now have to wait for more duff 1080 chips before new cards can be made. I am kicking myself too. I could have purchased the two 1070Ti Hybrid cards that I still need at the end of last year, but was waiting for the then current billing cycle to end so I could put the new purchases into the next billing cycle. That date passed and now there is no stock available anywhere.

But the thing is, it wasn't just the 1070's, again, it was pretty much everything middling to upper end that was wiped out. Just crazy.

Yes, I guess the crypto miners have decided to get back into GPU mining with the recent skyrocketing valuations. I had a comment from RuieKe that he is not worried about Seti work as he just lets his machines loose on crypto and they are paying out very well apparently now. Back last summer that wasn't the case.

Crypto currencies are all about speculation. People are speculating again, so their value is going up again, so hardware is scarce again. And it'll drop/crash again. And people will speculate again. And on it will go.

Speculating in the crypto currencies is not for the faint of heart, is it. From 20K/BTC before Christmas to today with BTC=13K is a 65% drop in valuation in less than a month. You basically have to become a day trader to participate.

Maybe some relief in sight (for a while anyway, till the next round of speculation).

Cryptocurrencies have been heavily sold off, amid fresh fears of a major regulatory crackdown in South Korea.
Bitcoin has seen its price drop by more than 20 per cent, to well under $US11,000, after the South Korean finance minister said in a radio interview that a ban on trading cryptocurrencies was a live option.
It follows a sell-off last week when the idea of a law to ban trading was first raised by the minister.
It is the biggest sell-off in bitcoin in at least three years, which peaked at nearly $US20,000 back in December, but it did not suffer as badly as many of its cryptocurrency rivals.

I see lots of posts at the vendors that Nvidia stock would be arriving again at the end of the month. Will be interesting to see whether the pricing drops back to normal from the current insane levels.

All gone, just checked on the GeForce 10 Series Family, all gone, top to bottom, other than the odd 1030 or 1050. Oh well.

Yeah, got to be quick on the clicks to get one. Surprised they lasted as long as they did.

Just did a quick search for giggles a couple mins ago, I am looking at the ~$500 (normal retail) Ti versions (08G-P4-6775-KR for example ), and on Amazon, under the Other Sellers they had 2 listed, one for $1100, and one for $1300, for the same card, from the same seller even, which is bizarre. I'd hope that they are an authorized reseller of EVGA products, because after paying that kind of money, to at _least_ get a warranty would I feel be a reasonable expectation. But then again, these are pretty unreasonable times...

*edit* Was looking at EVGA's site again, at the vast wasteland of Auto Notify buttons, and saw that the top end 1070's were within striking distance of the non-Ti 1080's. I was wondering about the performance difference between them, I would think that the 1080 would be a little better in performance, but use a bit more power doing so? Again, the difference on the air cooled versions is $20, so I would hope they would be pretty close in performance if they are that close in price.

It is especially hard to find 1070's as they are the product most in demand by the miners. The 1070 easily surpasses any 1080 in hash rate. Crypto miners won't touch a 1080, so they are left for the gamers to purchase.

Could you please explain to someone who has never done crypto, how a 1070 can outperform a 1080? Would that be productivity/watt, or some other metric, or just somehow is faster?
