Probably behind the great internet wall of China, but there are a few here that manage to get out from behind it. ;-)

Cheers.

Maybe:)
But there are many chinese internet players around the world so there must be another reason.

Do they know about SETI at all?
Maybe some advertisement in socialmedia is necessary??

Maybe they have been told not to participate in the seti@home project.

The internet is not as open over there as it is in many other parts of the world.....China is one such country that you can not get Facebook for example.....they have their own version of it over there....The point is this...they have a well developed fire wall system that prevents the user from accessing certain addresses from other countries....Freedom of speech is not free every were.....Poland was under clamps many years ago too!!
That was before there was an internet...:-)

China is very restrictive on what you can see outside its boarders. Most of the big western search engines are either blocked completly or heavily filtered, and their equivalent of google is just as restrictive. If you happen to know that S@H exists, and know the full URL you can get in and probably run it, but otherwise it relies on luck or having a (local) friend who can point you in the right direction.
This may change if we ever get access to the data from their new telescope, but that in itself is highly reliant upon the US &Chinese governments being on good terms with each other in the "correct" areas of science and technology.
I might know more after my next visit there in a few weeks time.

Most BOINC users have English as their language. People who don't master English are discouraged. I am Italian but I have studied in the USA. I try to maintain an Italian Cafe for non English speaking users, but the only one who helps me is a Swede who speaks Italian. So maybe the Chinese don't know enough English to take part.

My recent visits to China have shown me that the understanding of English within the technical and commercial worlds is probably as good as within the same groups in many European countries however their spoken English is significantly worse.
Access to computers is somewhat more restricted, but smart phones is substantially better in the cities, but the almost none are Android based because Google is comprehensivly blocked.

There are many Chinese people that know how to speak English,
Problem though that China is very restrictive to people communicating with outsiders.
No matter what language used.

I have received from nature.com/scientific reports a letter written partly in Chinese, I don't know why. My impression is that it was written by an alien. The Alphabet is a Mediterranean invention, startingwith Crete Linear A (yet not deciphered) and Linear B. China, Japan and Korea have developed a completely different way of recording both spoken words and images. We belong to two different worlds.

Team China

Presumably you are aware:-

This map shows SETI@home transmissions during a period of five minutes collected within the past 24 hours, and includes IP2Location LITE data available from ip2location.com. Current data is entirely collected at Arecibo. We are working to include data from GBT and LOFAR.]
This is looped to my knowledge.

The current show reel reveals little activity from Africa. I have seen more. My rock is however well represented for once ;-)

regards, Rod
