@Clyde yes inconvenient facts and misconceptions about percentages do seem to escape notice.

J. Mercer.......yup......dreamin' and earnin' and laughin'.....

Dear JE...

The beliefs of those who cannot accept that 50% plus 1 vote constitutes a majority.

Is just another verification that we are correct regarding the foundation of some of the beliefs posted here.

Repeating this inconvenient fact:

The majority of voters did not for any candidate to be our President in 2016.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

The "debate" is getting ugly now.
Why can't Trump do something like this instead?

In our federal election last night we saw a similar result: in the US although it appears one is voting for the president, instead the vote is for one of 538 electors who will vote (it is hoped) for the president, and Canada has a parliamentary system where the only thing being voted for in a federal election is the local Member of Parliament (MP). The leader of the party with the most MPs out of 338 total seats elected becomes the Prime Minister, so it's also rather like voting for the Prime Minister indirectly though an elector.

Our incumbent Liberal PM lost the popular vote with 33.1% / 5,911,879 votes to the Conservative challenger's 34.4% / 6,153,521 votes, yet still won the election due to his party getting 157 seats vs. the Conservative party's 121. This is because in many ridings esp. in the west, the Conservative candidate won by a very large margin of votes (ie 80% of the total.)

So, as always, this system cuts both ways and a reform to it would be fairer to everyone no matter their political alignment. Incidentally our re-elected PM ran last time on a promise of electoral reform, but didn't follow through.

Dear Mr. Kevvy,

As others may not understand. Unlike Canada and other similar Parliamentary systems. Our vote for President, Senator and Representative are separate elections. With many voting for a Democrat President, a Republican Senator/Representative and vice versa.

In the USA, it is the winner of the majority (50% plus 1 vote) who takes Office. Be it for Governor, Mayor, Senator, Representative, etc. This also includes our Electoral College vote for President.

If no candidate wins a majority (50% +1 vote) there is another election runoff. Usually among the top two candidates. The Presidency is different if no one wins a majority (50% +1 vote) in the Electoral College.

Because of this. Our two major political party's, not our Government's, are a coalition of sometimes very disparate views.

A good example would be the very successful Democrat coalition under FDR, Truman, JFK and Lyndon Johnson.

This Democrat Party included Communists, Capitalists, Northern Blacks and Southern KKK.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Time for Trump to change his given name Donald to Vladimir which mean 'the lord of the world' or 'praised for his power'.
Nicked Дядя Вова/Uncle Vova of course. Oh... There is another one...
For Russia, Trump’s presidency is a gift that keeps on giving. The Kremlin’s propagandists see no acceptable alternative among any viable presidential candidates in 2020.

Dear JE...

It is very interesting that this appeared on CNN.

BTW: Unhinged Hillary's, the Democrat Party's Leadership and most of their candidates for President daily attacks and hysteria. Is likely an attempt to deflect attention from the possible criminal actions by some Hillary supporting Federal Law Enforcement Officials in the Obama Administration and the DNC.

As of this point in time:

#1 - We don't know what the results of the DOJ investigation will show.

#2 - We don't know if the Democrat's will be successful in their attempt at a meaningless, if the Republican Senate doesn't Convict, Impeachment of Trump.

Those on either side, who say they know. Are just engaged in wishful thinking.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Thought is was dims who obstructed.

The Democrat's selective "leaks" are... well... Just fill-in the negatives.

The Republican's invading this investigation and "violating security protocols by bringing phones and other electronic devices into what is supposed to be a secure space used for classified materials" are... well... Just fill-in the negatives.

If only both sides would grow up, understand the responsibilities of their Office and stop their infantile, but very destructive, vomiting on us to get or remain in power.

Unfortunately, they are just politicians and we must always understand:

I know, right?
Maybe the cops didn't shoot because they didn't flee & present their backsides?
