Oh dear... First Vova Putin, then Kim Jong-un, now Viktor Orban... Trump really knows how to pick allies.
Trump's envoy in Budapest says the U.S. president likened Orban to a twin brother: “It’s like we’re twins,” Trump told Orban and also says Orban is "tough and respected".
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-05-15/trump-compared-orban-to-a-twin-brother-envoy-tells-444-hu
The two leaders got along so well that Trump told Orban at the end of their White House meeting on Monday that “it’s like we’re twins,” U.S. Ambassador David Cornstein, who was present, told 444.hu in an interview published Wednesday.

Newsflash, the tighter Bernie and AOC get, the less chance he has of winning either the nomination or the election.

I see your point (even I though I still don't understand why a lot of people seem to be severely allergic to AOC and only mildly allergic to Bernie).

As far as the economy goes, it was Bill unfortunately that made that quote famous and we're both allergic to the Clintons, so we agree on that :)
But yeah, I do understand the point you're trying to make so my answer is:

If the Dems go with a Biden or a Harris then yeah, it'll take a miracle to beat Trump. Like the economy tanking as you said.
But if by some miracle Sanders manages to get the nomination then I see no reason for the people of Wisconsin (for example) to vote for Trump. They aren't any richer than they were under Obama and they know it.

I believe the people of Wisconsin might not agree with your assessment of their financial state. This from the New York Times(hardly a Trumpeter),
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/11/us/politics/trump-the-us-economy.html
By Jeremy W. Peters

COLFAX, Wis. — "President Trump came to Wisconsin late last month to boast about the state’s unemployment rate, which has been at or near 3 percent for more than a year. “It’s never been this low before. Ever, ever, ever,” he said. (Fact check: true.)

It’s a message that strikes a chord with Bubba Benson, who lives paycheck to paycheck but says that is still better than where he was a few years ago after getting laid off from a shoe warehouse “when all the jobs went to Mexico.” His new job at a plastics manufacturing plant covers the bills and pays good overtime. There are even a few extra bucks in his paycheck now, which he credits to Mr. Trump’s tax cut.

“It didn’t let me go out and buy a new house,” Mr. Benson said as he leaned on the bar at the Outhouse, a watering hole on Main Street in this village of about 1,100 people. “But that wasn’t what it was for.”
Since Bernie's plan is to give 'free' benefits for about everyone and tax the hell out of The People to do so, I don't believe he will be viable. Since the Dim view has always been 'If it moves, regulate it, and when it stops moving, tax it', they will not have a prayer against a roaring economy.

Obama made the statement to the effect that Trump can't bring back manufacturing jobs lost without a magic wand........guess what? Apparently he has one.

By the way, James Carville was the speech writer/political strategist for Bubba, and he did originate "It's the economy, Stupid". Bubba just spoke the words like the sock puppet he is. He was never sharp enough to have thought that up on his own.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_the_economy%2C_stupid
""It's the economy, stupid" is a slight variation of the phrase "The economy, stupid", which James Carville coined as a campaign strategist of Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential campaign against sitting president George H. W. Bush."

@moomin Of course he said that. That's diplomatic flattery. He did that with Kim, Putin, Xi, and with anyone else he's trying to influence. He only calls out those who will never accept his P.O.V. ie Iran, Hezbollah, ISIS, and the radically Dim.

It must be great being a convicted crook these days in the U.S. with v2.0 at the helm.

Trump pardons media tycoon, former GOP leader of California State Assembly.

While businesses and people are moving out of v2.0's Towers and it also looks like no one wants to go to v2.0's Doral golf resort either with business down 69%.

Trump's Doral resort is in steep decline, report says.

Why Are Trump’s Businesses in Trouble? It’s All in the Name.

He might have bragged that he was America's richest person (which was a very long way from the truth even back then), but it looks like his account books are sliding even further into decline with his once most profitable business (according to him anyway) going down the chute at a rapid rate.

And then there's that revolving door.

Trump revolving door creates 'unprecedented' vacancy mess in government.

No mention was made on the state of the bearings, but I hope that they're of a better quality than some of that junk that the U.S. is trying to sell over here ATM.

And then there are all those farmers who are feeling the pain over v2.0's trade war.

Farmer who voted for Trump: I'm not going to be quiet.

Even Faux News is feeling the pressure with many blue ribbon advertisers leaving and an internal rebellion against v2.0 pandering.

•Democrat Presidential Contender Tulsi Gabbard unleashes on 'blatant' liar James Clapper in Joe Rogan interview•

Tulsi Gabbard Hawaii congresswoman and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate who following her election in 2012, she became the first Samoan American and the first Hindu member of the United States Congress.

In addition to the usual Anti Trump beliefs, she stated:

"I think you had the director of the Department of National Intelligence at that time, James Clapper, who sat before the United States Senate and blatantly lied," Gabbard charged.

"He was asked very directly, 'Are you collecting this information,' and he said 'no.' 'Are you collecting this information on American citizens' and he said, 'no.' And yet, he is somebody you see on TV [CNN] almost every day as an expert in this country without any consequence lying to the American people."

Hmmmmm

A Democrat attacking both a Never Trumping former Director of the Department of National Intelligence and CNN!

Just finished watching the Rogan podcast and Tulsi was nothing short of awesome. That whole segment you quoted gets a LOT better. Spoiler alert! It's about Snowden and how she'd pardon him. She already had my full respect but DAMN, I never thought I'd hear any of the 2020 candidates say it out loud. Should be around the one hour and forty minute mark... can't link because of language.

Also loved the fact she watches South Park and appears to fully understand why a "chilling effect" is a bad idea. Go Tulsi.

And it was just a couple days ago I called her a bit "stiff". Her last Rogan interview was only 8 months ago and I watched that one back then. And stiff she was.
Not this time :)

Australian Election bodes well for President Trump in 2020. A supportive Australia will help with solving the China problems in trade and military expansion...... https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/18/world/australia/election-results-scott-morrison.html?fbclid=IwAR0xfG4LW5t0-r-SriL9a5vOwtJ_GskOOnB4ucOvuka5PCLqCelWO0MtyNY
Australia Election Results: Prime Minister Scott Morrison Seizes a Stunning Win

.....The triumph by Mr. Morrison, an evangelical Christian who has expressed admiration for President Trump, comes at a time of rising tension in the Asia-Pacific region. A trade war between the United States and China has forced longtime American allies like Australia to weigh security ties with Washington against trade ties with Beijing.

The conservative victory also adds Australia to a growing list of countries that have shifted rightward through the politics of grievance, including Brazil, Hungary and Italy. Mr. Morrison’s pitch mixed smiles and scaremongering, warning older voters and rural voters in particular that a government of the left would leave them behind and favor condescending elites.

We'll see how that works out Eye seeing that they told us that there wasn't any $'s to spend and then they turn around covering most of the policies of the opposition while suddenly splashing hundreds of million of $'s about.

But 1 thing is that we didn't wind up with a psychopath who wants war to the top job.

Now back to v2.0.

GOP Rep. Amash becomes first Republican to say Trump 'engaged in impeachable conduct'.

Deutsche Bank staff saw suspicious Trump and Kushner activity – report.

As v2.0 carries on with his trade war while trying to figure out how to have real war in the Middle East it looks like he'll have 1 on his door step.

The US has deployed additional warships and planes to the Gulf in recent days.
But Mr Trump's tweet marked a shift in tone after recent attempts by him to downplay the possibility of a military conflict with Iran. When asked by reporters on Thursday if the US was going to war, he said: "I hope not."

Mr Zarif said the US president should look to history. "Iranians have stood tall for millennia while aggressors all gone... Try respect - it works!"

V2.0 really wants to provoke a war and just like Bush Jr. (the father of ISIS) is providing plenty of B.S. to try and support it.

The thing is that other countries are fully aware of that B.S. this time.

v2.0 isn't a very happy chappy.

Judge rules against Trump in lawsuit to block Democrats’ subpoena for financial records.

Not very happy at all.

Trump reacts angrily to New York Times report on Deutsche Bank transactions.

But he is staying true to form on his obstruction of justice stance.

Trump directs former White House counsel Don McGahn not to testify after Democrats issue subpoena.

While he seems to think that the "rule of law" doesn't apply to him, he certainly doesn't like seeing Democratic candidates on his favorite television channel.

The president gripes about Fox's news anchors, showing his disregard for journalism.

Did Rump have his mouthpiece ask for it?
Subornation!

https://www.justice.gov/jm/criminal-resource-manual-1752-subornation-perjury
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1622
Whoever procures another to commit any perjury is guilty of subornation of perjury, and shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

If Rump asked, undeniable reason to impeach.

Hey Jaundiced!
I wanted to do a lengthy post of why I disagree but just can't find the time. We'll probably go into it some other day but for now it boils down to:

Whoever goes into 2020 saying "the economy is booming" is going to lose the election.
(Unless of course it's Trump vs Biden, then they'll both be saying it and Trump most likely wins)

Just food for thought though, here's the 2016 Wisconsin Democratic primary. (This is a map of the whole State)
I posted this in reply to Angela way back when :)
I keep harping on it because I know it's data that is COMPLETELY counterintuitive.
(and just one of many reasons I keep harping on Nate Silver)

Election results by county.
Bernie Sanders - GREEN
Hillary Clinton - YELLOW

It's a result of population density, and that cities are frequently populated with centrist Democrats.
Probably repeated in just about every other state, and if there are any democrats in rural areas they will tend to the fringes, politically as far away from the Republicans as they can get.

You could ask from this map. "How did Clinton win the popular vote?"

...cities are frequently populated with centrist Democrats.

I'm just using this snippet as a stepping stone because I already know your views on this subject, so I know we'll never be anywhere near agreement.

Unfortunately this is a looong discussion and I've already tried answering a few different ways but never got through...
This point of view you are parroting is highly elitist (and wrong) and you've been suckered into believing something that is against your very nature. If it's any consolation I'm sure I've been suckered by a few things too, and I'd love for someone to point them out.

Anyway, to nit-pick your point above... cities are frequently populated with centrist Democrat voters.
Because cities are really populated by Uber drivers and other gig economy workers with crap wages, crap benefits, sky high day-to-day expenses, not-even-funny sky high rents etc. And if someone/anyone gives those people a reason to get out and vote, that's exactly what they're gonna do. Even if it rains. And I promise you, your mate Silver will miss it... again.

And like your mate Silver you are looking at that map and completely ignoring the data. Instead of being a wake-up call, you guys are doubling down and trying to make the ridiculous argument of "California Ãœber Alles".
