Alex Acosta resigns from U.S. government after furor over Jeffrey Epstein plea deal

U.S. Labour Secretary Alexander Acosta on Friday resigned after earlier in the week defending way [sic] he handled a decade-old sex abuse case against wealthy businessman Jeffrey Epstein while Acosta was a federal prosecutor.

Donald Trump announced the news with Acosta by his side at the White House as the president left on a trip to the Midwest.

...

The prosecutors said they were not bound by the 2008 Florida deal struck by Acosta, then the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, that allowed Epstein to plea to a lesser offence. Epstein served 13 months in jail with leave during the day and registered as a sex offender.

The deal came under scrutiny earlier this year following reporting by the Miami Herald, and Democrats en masse had called for Acosta's resignation.

Acosta had attempted to clear his name, and on Wednesday held a news conference — encouraged by Trump — to defend his actions. In a 50-plus-minute lawyerly rebuttal, Acosta argued his office had secured the best deal it could at the time and was working in the victims' best interests.

"We did what we did because we wanted to see Epstein go to jail," he said, refusing to apologize for his actions. "We believe that we proceeded appropriately."

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

When Rump does something right, we need to admit it.
President Trump confirmed reports that he threw Jeffrey Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago club years ago

"Jeffrey Epstein was not somebody that I respected. I threw him out. In fact I think the great James Patterson, who’s a member of Mar-a-Lago, made a statement yesterday, that many years ago I threw him out. I’m not a fan of Jeffrey Epstein."
“I didn’t want anything to do with him. That was many, many years ago. It shows you one thing -- that I have good taste."

Donny's name and contact information was found in a little black book kept by Jeffrey Epstein's assistant.
The little black book was published online and Donny got mad, kicking Jeffrey Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago.
Yeah Donny's got good taste, the Best taste.
Sounds like he's getting his ducks in a row.
The great James Patterson even remembers Donny kicking Jeffrey Epstein to the curb.
How convenient.

People are coming into this country illegally, we are taking them out legally,” Trump told reporters on Friday, calling it a “major operation” that would mainly focus on removing criminals.

By the way, it's probably old news to you, it didn't get much play in the States due to the sway of the Marxist/Leninist/Socialist controlled mass media, but what is your take on these headlines from March.....

Obviously what Finland has done has not worked well in a very important fiscal sense but what what has happened under Obama care and the previous health care system has not done well either.
The problem is that people do not want to pay taxes for the services they demand, witness the incredible growth in national debt. Methinks one should borrow when necessary such as the great recession and pay down the debt during prosperous times such as now.

Don't be fooled by absolute numbers. The US has a larger population than most countries, and although a figure over a million/year might look large, in percentage terms in relation to the US total population, it is much smaller than your norther neighbour, and about the same percentage as the UK. And compared to the UK the US has a lot more room for them as the population density of the UK is over 700/mile² and the US is lower than 90/mile².

The US takes in over 1 million LEGAL immigrants a year.

Make that 1.13 million in 2017
But for comparison 1.02 million in 1905 and 1.04 million in 1910.

You might think in the century difference when world population has gone from 1.6 billion 1900 to 7.4 billion 2017 that the number admitted might have gone up.

Name another country that allows that many people to relocate each year to their system.

Germany. 1.03 million 2015.

You really should ask that question on a per capita basis.
https://www.npr.org/2014/10/29/359963625/dozens-of-countries-take-in-more-immigrants-per-capita-than-the-u-s
If you think the United States is every immigrant's dream, reconsider. Sure, in absolute numbers, the U.S. is home to the most foreign-born people — 45.7 million in 2013.

But relatively, it's upper-midpack as an immigrant nation. It ranks 65th worldwide in terms of percentage of population that is foreign-born, according to the U.N. report "Trends in International Migrant Stock."

Immigrants make up more than a fourth (27.7 percent) of the land Down Under; two other settler nations, New Zealand and Canada, weigh in with 25.1 and 20.7 percent foreign-born, respectively. That's compared with 14.3 percent in the United States.

Monaco (64.2 percent foreign-born), Andorra (56.9 percent), Luxembourg (43.3 percent) and Singapore (42.9 percent), among others.

Isn't the USA supposed to be number one on every list under MAGA? Sixty-fifth? Have to do a lot better to MAGA!

LOL:) Of course I know it's not true.
But reading and hearing Trump the Genius and others in the media I get the impression that the US are invaded by hoards of criminal immigrants.
Then why do you bring up healthcare in Finland, Sweden and Denmark that are not immigrant related?
It's a FACT that the US have to pay TWICE as much in healthcare then we in the Nordic countries have to.
I wont deny that we in Sweden have problem with immigration as well.
But your links to Finland's problems are ridiculous. They doesn't even mention immigrants as a cause!

Where are they now?
I remember in 90's when Sweden was "invaded by hoards of criminal immigrants" from the Balkan states.
Where are they now?
I remember the 90's very well when Finland was asked how many refugees they would take from the Balkan states when Sweden took several thousands.
SEVEN they said:) Hyvä Soumi:)

tRump, willing to damage the security of the USA for his personal vanity
The Mail on Sunday reports that Sir Kim wrote to Mr Johnson informing him Republican President Trump appeared to be abandoning the nuclear deal for "personality reasons" - because the pact had been agreed by his Democrat predecessor, Barack Obama.

Ah-ah, ah!
Ah-ah, ah!
We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun, where the hot springs flow
The hammer of the gods
W'ell drive our ships to new lands
To fight the horde, and sing and cry
Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore
Ah-ah, ah!
Ah-ah, ah!
We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow
How soft your fields so green
Can whisper tales of gore
Of how we calmed the tides of war
We are your overlords
On we sweep with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh

Next question is of course, why will Trump determine the future of Venezuela.
Could it be because Venezuela is a an oil producing country?
The Monroe Doctrine?
You mean the right that the United States has the right to intervene as "international police power" if states in the Caribbean and Central America appear "uncivilized"?

Except for the native peoples everyone in the USA is an immigrant and comes from immigrant families.

It was what made America great, the diversity.

Now Donald Trump has finally said what he means, if you are not white then leave.

Wonder why it took him so long.

Even the "native" peoples of the Americas are immigrants, albeit from far longer ago and into a land uninhabited by any other humans. The only humans on earth who have any claim to be non-immigrants are North Africans, where the oldest H. sapiens fossils have been discovered. Everyone else is an descendant of immigrants to some degree.
