Yes, and they're really a jovial group when not chanting or meditating. They were also quite happy for me to take pictures.

Perhaps they found funny the fact that you were attempting to permanently document a dissolution ceremony symbolizing the impermanence of things  ? Oh, western people ! =:)

Great photographic report, thanks Gordon.

Well, you've got a good point there, Pierre. I hadn't thought of it that way! ;~) They gave me a little bag of the sand to take home with me. I disbursed it in my garden.

The sky's on fire! We have a lot of sunrises like this, but I usually miss most of them.

This is a "panorama" shot. Not sure how it will render here. I guess it will depend on the width of your browser window. If you're using a cell phone, forget about it!!

It just occurred to me that your (UK) sunrises and sunsets are gold. I'm saying this because of a photo I took many years ago. This was taken from the Tower Bridge circa 1990.

Red at night, sailor's delight.
Red in the morning, sailor's warning.
A dusty atmosphere makes for good sunsets & sunrises.

Here in Darwin, particularly in the dry season, it's often extremely dusty- Tourists in their thousands (and a few locals) head to the various prime viewing spots to watch the sun set over the harbour.
Darwin sunsets

Although if you're in the right place at the right time during the build-up, you can get some truly incredible sunsets if there is a storm about to come through from the East.

Rules:

Post only original photos taken by you. One exception is if someone takes a photo OF you, you can post it here.

Not too big. In inches I wouldn't go much bigger than 8" x 10", but that's just
a general guideline, not a hard and fast rule. In pixels that would be 576 x 720.
(You all know they should be 72dpi, right?)

This group/thread is not for items for sale. Please post your for-sale items elsewhere.

Let's keep the photos rated PG, please. :-)

I like the way the hills turned out. There's also something ethereal and surreal in the juxtaposition of the power lines over the mountains, and I like the way one of the transmission towers leads your eye down into the city.

The last set of hills in the background is actually Santa Catalina Island, about 60 miles from where I was standing on Angeles Crest Highway.
I also like the sunlight reflection off the Pacific Ocean.
