Yes. "Being processed" on the SSP means that work has started on that tape. But when the splitters are paused (e.g. for maintenance yesterday), or when new tapes are loaded, the tape selection mechanism sometimes picks a different tape for processing. So then the old tape goes into a 'waiting to run' state, such as we sometimes see on our BOINC Managers - except you can't see it on the SSP. Those are your ghosts: they are very common, even if you haven't noticed them before. And they're nothing to worry about - eventually the tape selection process will pick them out again and give them another go. |

Actually, Seti@Home is not much fun any more, with the outages, droughts, problems, speculations...and CreditScrew. Sorry about being so pessimistic, folks.... ;-) ...Ghia... Humans may rule the world...but bacteria run it... |

It was fun back in 2000 since my first account that I somehow lost access to it. Now it's about transitioning mankind to a new level of insight, awarness or identity. Will we setizens ever be allowed to know what our work reveals ? |

Actually, Seti@Home is not much fun any more, with the outages, droughts, problems, speculations...and CreditScrew. Well, you have to be optimistic when running Seti. That's what it's really all about. Being optimistic that we may find that proof we are all looking for. Meow! "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Actually, Seti@Home is not much fun any more, with the outages, droughts, problems, speculations...and CreditScrew. I reluctantly admit to similar feelings. Though I'm not quite ready to jump ship yet, any other Space/SciFi/Alien projects that more or less provide 24-7 work with an interactive project staff? (and Linux GPU support) |

Actually, Seti@Home is not much fun any more, with the outages, droughts, problems, speculations...and CreditScrew. I second that. What prompted me to post this, was the sudden thought that if the project was a company reliant on revenue from customers, they would have been out of business a long time ago, Yes, I know the issue of funding is involved here...but I fear that is not the whole issue. I'm not quite ready to jump ship, either, I'm here of my own free will, as we all are, but to do this kind of 'voluntary work' there needs to be an element of fun or satisfaction involved, imho. Optimism for finding intelligent life "out there" is wearing thin right now. Humans may rule the world...but bacteria run it... |

If they would at least communicate more ... In this case: What's the problem? What do they need to make it better? Something like that? In general: It would be nice to see some results from all the work people are doing, at least once per year, or so ... |

If they would at least communicate more ...It's a quarter to seven in the morning in San Francisco. You expect someone to be working on things and communicating that to you at that time? |

I believe he is speaking in more general terms. Not as of this moment. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

I had truly not noticed this before, even though I would usually count the splitters shown on the bar graphs and match it with the number running. I might have missed a couple at one time or another because the number on the tape being processed was never explicit and I had to guess, based on the width of the darker green areas (remember when we had the cases where several got stuck on one tape?), but what I meant was that I could not remember seeing more tapes being processed than splitters running. Thanks for the explanation. |
