It's a good thing we have a head start here in Sydney, if I get to the bank early I might still squeak in under the rope. If you have one the donation page does accept Australian Visa cards. It says it will also take Amex and MasterCard but I have no first hand knowledge with either of them. Another alternative if you have a PayPal account is to donate through the GPUUG web site. Exchange rate isn’t in our favour unfortunately. You know you want one of the spinning hard drive or GPU icons next to your name... BOINC blog |

Mine's a VISA debit card, but sadly it doesn't work on O.S. transactions. :-( But ATM I've got a bigger problem to attend to before the end of the year. :-(( I do give my deep down appreciation though to those who could step up to the plate. ;-) Cheers. |

Some Visa Debit cards are country or region specific, some you have to request extended coverage, and some work anywhere in the world - its all down the the account and provider. You gave $325.00 to SETI@home on December 10, 2017 via Visa Your confirmation number is 305218 Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Can I respectfully suggest that given the continuing level of funding that this appeal is currently generating, it would be advantageous to many people, not least Seti, if this were to be given just a couple more days to continue. To see all the spinning icons everywhere is truly uplifting, and very festive at this time of year as well.Well, it's up to Eric, of course, but I rather suspect the answer will be no. He's posted already that he wants to put everything back to normal when the lab opens tomorrow: that's just 24 hours from now. Having watched the amount of effort he's put into this over the last three months - pulling the team together, checking and re-checking the specifications of the hardware he needs to buy - I think he'd like to get back to the day job, buy the kit, and start setting it up for use. I've been watching the donation totals, and if we carry on at the current rate, I'm pretty sure that with the promised matching funds, we'll end up with over $100,000 to play with by the time those - oops, 23:45 hours - are up. That would be enough to buy both sets of hardware, twice over - plus 10% contingency on top. Unless somebody's prepared to cough up another radio telescope, a crew to run it, and another Eric to process the data, I think we're OK for now and it's a nice round number to end on. Brilliant response guys and gals, a very happy Christmas to you all !Now that's a sentiment we can all agree on :-) |

I would also think that anything post marked earlier than the cut off should still count... (I put one in snail-mail a couple of days ago and who knows how long it will take to get to his desk ...) Ed Frybarger |

I found out that snail mail takes 3 weeks to get Eric or Jeff. Primarily because all mail goes through the campus mailroom before being sorted for the separate campus buildings which then have their own mailroom and distribution. They only empty out their mailboxes once a week it seems. So it takes a while, at least it did for my mailed donation. Probably worth a friendly PM now to put down a marker, followed by another PM after term has restarted in January and everyone's back at their desks. |

A 6:1 match is amazing, count me in! Its great to see the enthusiasm, it surely has drawn me in!That was exactly my hope when we started mulling this over, it would be a motivator for a number of people. Thanks for your contributions, everyone! And as Richard stated, I think we should be north of $100k when everything is all said and done, and this will hopefully give him some latitude to upgrade/replace iffy equipment, and hopefully future proof and make more stable the entire project. That is my main goal with the donation, and glad the drive has been so successful. I figured there would be a good response, but this has been beyond my expectations. :-) |

Al, at least the new server should be named in honor of you, Richard and Mr K. I propose the name ARK. |

As I said before, a specific project and a target amount make it exciting and achievable and therefore motivating. But what I left unsaid and will say it now, is that the wonderfully generous matching donations from the Hansons (yourself not the pop group), Richard H and Mr K empower the rest of us with the knowledge our own donations can have an even greater impact. Kudos to you all. Now, with absolutely no malice whatsoever, I am going to cost you some more money (if I am not too late). 10th Dec 2017 $400 Conf. No 305375 . . Originally I was going to give $325 for one GPU and one HDD, but Garry upped the ante so I had to call :) Well done Mr Charpentier (hope I spelt that correctly). . . If I get to choose 2 tokens, icons or whachamacallits can I please have a spinning star and the GPU icon :) {I have been coping with spinning star envy for a while now} . . Oh, and on the subject or naming the unit, ARK sounds pretty good to me too :) Stephen :) |

Just four hours to go, folks. We've got our $100K (and then some), but I see 248 donations - 247 if we link both of Juan's into one. Can someone make it up to 250? |
