The response has been amazing! We've already reached our goal for the fundraiser and a bit more, and we reached the limits to which the donors have agreed to match. Any further matching of donations is up to them. If you didn't get a chance to get your special disk drive or GPU icon, we'll keep that open for donations that come in until 8am Pacific Time (1600 UTC) on Monday. Thanks to Al, Kevin, and Richard for sponsoring this amazing funding drive! And thanks to everyone that has donated to this drive and to our annual drive! @SETIEric@qoto.org (Mastodon) |

Wow! That really is a splendid response, and all complete in less than 24 hours since this thread was opened. Thanks to all donors - it's a pleasure to match you, large or small. I'll personally carry on matching you until the same cutoff as Eric has posted for the icons - 16:00 UTC on Monday - at the same rate as previously announced. But after that, let's pause and celebrate over Christmas. But I'd like to reconvene in the New Year, and consider what we can do together for the staffing side of things. I understand that you in the US of A might be getting some tax rebates, or at least lower tax demands, sometime next year? |

I just donated $325 via PayPal for one GPU and one disk drive. I hope this helps process the flood of data arriving from the Parkes Telescope. Regards, Trent AKA SonicAgamemnon "History is a pack of lies about events that never happened told by people who weren't there." - Santayana |

Thanks to all donors - it's a pleasure to match you, large or small.Agreed, even though we have reached our primary funding goal, I too will continue my match, though at a 1-1 rate, and that is unless a Mr. Gates or Buffett outsized donation amount pops in, then I'd definitely have to reign it in! And Richard, I couldn't agree with you more, SETI has a lot to celebrate over Christmas this year, especially since it appears to have come early for them! :-D |

Thank you Al, Kevin, and Richard for matching our donations and making this fund raiser a great success! Now maybe we can see if the newly released Titan V might be a little better than the previous budgeted cards. |

Second matching donation made... $2,900 down and $2,100 to go. I made it $1,400 as the first one was declined; if the exchange rate changed it may have gone just over the limit. You gave $1,400.00 Previous: You gave $1,500.00 |

I just added another $250.00. Wasn't sure about how to get any tax documents for the first. New the CC method generated a tax receipt. I'm not a heavy hitter like Richard or Mr. K or the Hanson family (thanks, guys!), but I'd like to do my part: You gave $150.00 to SETI@home on December 9, 2017 Your confirmation number is 305063 |

I'm not a heavy hitter like Richard or Mr. K or the Hanson family (thanks, guys!... You're welcome! And the Hanson family too! :^) (Actually I see you edited that.) In fact their and Richard's contributions are going to end up making mine look minuscule because we collected much more than anticipated. They don't have icons yet because they're awaiting the totals. My part is being the noisy emptier bottle that rattles louder. 😀 I think this exercise has shown that rather than donate to a general expenses fund, people like the idea of contributing for "their" little bit of hardware that they feel has "their" name on it. And that has encouraged people here that that have to be careful with money to join in. I'm sure the GPUUG won't feel we are treading on their toes :-) Not at all... GPUUG is in on this, but even if not, as long as the goal is reached everyone is happy. What motivated me from the beginning with hardware fundraisers even without any personalization or recognition icons etc. was taking the project in new directions. Same-old same-old maintenance steady-state will get a green star $10 or perhaps $100 if there's a dead server needing resurrection, but what really fired me up was exploration and the possibility of discovery in a completely different area. If same-old hasn't found anything yet, enthusiasm wanes and novelty is essential to get it back again. |

+1 Same sentiment here. Love the fact we get to listen to Southern skies shortly. In general, there are lots more interesting phenomena in that area of sky, at least from my visual astronomy experiences. Thanks to all who have contributed during this special campaign. Don't forget employee matching. Check your employer's list to see if Berkeley is on it. Edit: Didn't see Don's post about company matching. I had searched for "employee". |

I didn't find out about this drive until Friday AEDT on the way out and made plans to hit the bank on Monday. Now it is only Sunday morning and it's all over. It's a good thing we have a head start here in Sydney, if I get to the bank early I might still squeak in under the rope. Stephen :) |

I think it is more having a specific hardware/function to achieve and a target amount to work towards that is involving by nature. People get motivated by seeing the goal as achievable and the function/hardware as something desirable. Stephen :) |
