Did you know: The US has around 6,800 nuclear warheads. The total number of US warheads is second only to Russia, which currently has around 7,000 of them. Other countries that have nukes are not even near to that. Trump in the US and Putin in Russia have the authorities to use them. |

Re the 'super moon': BBC TV news has just told its viewers that "tonight the moon is going to move closer to the earth to create the super moon effect". I wonder if Isaac Newton knew that phenomenon? |

Re the 'super moon': BBC TV news has just told its viewers that "tonight the moon is going to move closer to the earth to create the super moon effect". I wonder if Isaac Newton knew that phenomenon? No. In this theorem he stated that orbits were uniform. See his Proposition 45 that extended his theorem to arbitrary central forces by assuming that the particle moved in nearly circular orbit. |

All I know is that the nutters have surfaced in other places. I would suggest that you look at our moon right now yourself. Oh. It's cloudy in London. Anyway. There will be more Super Moons. But here and some parts of Britain it looks very large and bright as well today. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-42211288 |

There was a touch of cloud when I went out, but again bright and clear as I come back in - but the moon high in the sky hardly looks 'super'. It does light up the passing contrails very clearly, but doesn't quite out-glare Orion, immediately below from my viewpoint. |

But here the moon has out-glared Orion and every other stars. However I could see Venus though. |

I didn't have any good foregrounds. Here is the moon behind Anaheim's Crystal Cathedral. I could not get an exposure where the moon did not overpower the Cathedral spires. |

California is burning up again. The Ventura Fire has burned 150 structures, including schools and a Hospital. I have many friends in the area, so far they are all safe but many have been forced to evacuate. |
