Some relatives of mine were on a yacht in the Atlantic Ocean with French skipper Eric Tabarly. He wore no lifeline and wanted no radio on board. He was washed away from a wave and my relatives found themselves alone in the Atlantic, with no way of calling for help. Eventually they were sighted by a ship and saved. Eric Tabarly's body was found later on the Portugal coast.

I am just the opposite. I stress safety. I always have 3 battery banks, 2 shortwave radios, 4 VHF radios, Sat phone, Epirb, 2 life rafts, etc. I even run man overboard drills. I have been in some very heavy seas but luckily never needed any of my back ups. I have sailed with skippers who believe in going with minimal gear, but alway take at least my cell phone and handheld vhf.

I have a iPhone 4S. Never thought much about it. But I have a option to get a satellite phone sleeve upgrade for it. Just slide it in and now it's talks to satellites.

Woman Marries Landmark Tree in Bid To Save It
The 100-year-old ficus could get the axe in a Florida park

A Florida woman who's hoping to save a 100-year-old tree from being cut down held a wedding ceremony in which she pledged to honor and protect the imposing ficus. Karen Cooper wants to save the landmark Ft. Myers tree, whose 8,000-foot canopy graces a park near her home.

POST NOTE: Ft. Myers city council voted yesterday to NOT "ax" the tree but keep it instead.

Was it silent and deadly? My dad had a dog that not every fart was silent.

Can the ad industry persuade us to eat more vegetables?
Advertisers are the experts at persuading us to eat burgers, crisps and fizzy drinks. But what if they tried to sell us something healthier?

Popeye may be half the size of his arch-rival Bluto, but one gulp from his can and he is tossing his enemy high overhead, wrapping him up in rope, or bopping him round the head with those trademark pumped up forearms.

Don't drink the coffee in California.

Next you will see warning labels of water, "Caution drowning hazard, the Surgeon General of the State has determined that excessive use can pose a serious risk of drowning".

Yes. But not by drowning.
Water intoxication
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication
Water intoxication, also known as water poisoning, hyperhydration, or water toxemia is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain functions that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside safe limits by overhydration (excessive water intake).
I wonder how the human race has managed to survive so long without warning labels...
