I still have an electric Smith-Corona typewriter, with new black and white cartridges, and carbon paper. I typed all my college/University reports with it.

Mysterious severed thumb had Georgia sheriff puzzled — until he squeezed it
It sure looked like a thumb, lying in a dirt patch on a Putnam County lawn.

Or as the cops put it, a “found body part.”

The county sheriff, who lives nearby, was summoned.

As he and a deputy gazed down at the apparently carved-off curiosity in a couple’s back yard across the road from Lake Oconee, they couldn’t help wondering, “Is it human?”

It looked like a dirty rock. On closer inspection it appeared to be the end of a thumb.

... The subject line of the police report about the finger-like find has since been changed from “found body part” to “suspicious item.”

Sills plans to keep the thumb.

“I’m sure,” he told The Telegraph on Wednesday, “I’ll come up with a medical use for it when summoned for some root-doctoring in the future.”

Bad puns about "inflation" and other things do not go well for this weatherman.......
This Local News Segment Is The Most Cringeworthy Interview Of All Time

They say that timing is everything. In the case of one news anchor for San Diego’s KUSI-TV, shockingly terrible timing is why an unremarkable puff piece turned into one of the most cringeworthy news segments of 2018.

The news piece was likely supposed to be a light-hearted but largely unremarkable puff piece on the Inflatable Run, a race that promotes getting off the couch and appreciating inflatable slides and balloons. That’s not how it turned out.

I was on that web site for a different article. It was the top trending article and was pure curiosity that got me to read it.

Lucky Bugger!
A lucky French man has won the lottery twice in 18 months.
You have to be pretty lucky to win a lottery even once. You have to be exceptionally lucky to win it twice in less than 18 months.
But according to Le Parisien newspaper, that's exactly what happened to one unnamed man from south-east France.
His first win was in November 2016 and his second came just weeks ago in May 2018.
Both times he won 1 million euros (thus the name of the lottery "My Million"). That's about (Aus) $3 million total.

"From mountain to sea, intense orange plumes brightly from Leilani Estates under the Milky Way galaxy. Views from Maunakea summit rendered a glowing peak surrounded by a landscape of clouds tucking into the flanks of Maunakea and Mauna Loa. Pu'u Wekiu stands majestically in the foreground at 13,796ft elevation, the true summit and highest point in the State of Hawaii."

This parent did the RIGHT THING!
Mom recognized son's Crime Stoppers photo — so she dragged him to the station, Texas cops say
Two suspects waved a gun around and ordered a woman out of her car in the parking lot of a San Antonio Walmart on May 31, according to police.

One of the suspect's moms might now be the key in bringing the pair to justice.

Crime stoppers offered its customary $5,000 incentive Tuesday for anyone who recognized the blurred faces on the security footage from the Walmart on Bandera Road.

The case was unfolding about as one would expect, until Joshua Gabriel Rea showed up at a San Antonio police substation.

His mom dropped him off there Wednesday after recognizing her son in the Crime Stoppers photo, according to KABB.

They both made the right decision.

Are you sure? From what perspective it is "right?" From what perspective is it "wrong?"

Stealing someone's gun is wrong.
Using a gun to threaten to kill people & steal their cars is wrong.
Allowing someone to get away with doing that is wrong.
Making people have to deal with the consequences of their actions is right.

So how on earth could it be considered right to let someone get away with that sort of behaviour without any consequence?
Or don't you mind people sticking a gun in your face & taking your car? Or is it only OK to behave that way if they're a friend or a member of your family?

Woman obsessed with 'body modification' tattoos eyeballs blue

NOTE: First photo in article is borderline "NSFW"
A 23-year-old woman has revealed her incredible transformation after spending more than $8,000 on body modifications, including a split tongue and blue inkings on her eyeballs.

Amber Luke, who is dubbed “Blue Eyes White Dragon” by pals, developed an addiction to tattoos at the tender age of 16, and now has more than 50 designs.

The body piercer, from Australia, told Daily Mail Australia: “I have no regrets whatsoever. I’m absolutely in love with my image.”

Luke risked going permanently blind after getting her eyeballs tattooed with blue ink.

Stealing someone's gun is wrong.

So confiscating guns for gun control is wrong.

There is always another perspective to any action.

The action though was turning in a person to have society extract vengeance, not the actions of the people turned in.

No relevance to what you were discussing, and a specious argument in any case.

Sure.
A lot of people are Ok with many things, as long as it doesn't happen t them. Then it's not Ok. That's just their point of view.
It's not about right or wrong, just how It affects them.

The action though was turning in a person to have society extract vengeance, not the actions of the people turned in.

And the actions of the people turned in can help determine whether turning them in is right or wrong.
And don't confuse justice, with vengeance (although the line can be very blurry at times).
For all of it's many faults, the present Western legal system is better than the many alternatives.

I suggest you start a philosophy thread if you wan to continue in this vein. Save this thread for more appropriate topics.

In the USA justice is more often than not vengeance. One of the faults of the USA.

No relevance to what you were discussing, and a specious argument in any case.

So theft by individual is somehow different than theft by group?

This is a discussion I've had many times over the years & have no interest in going through it all over again, as it would be a pointless exercise. I have my opinions, you have yours, and neither of us are likely to change them; however others may be interested. Hence the suggestion of starting a thread relevant to the discussion.
