Pilots report UFO in southern Arizona
Earlier this year, a bright light from an aircraft that couldn't be identified was reportedly in the sky above southern Arizona.

Two experienced pilots noticed it was flying above their planes. But what's different about this sighting is that the two pilots were flying separate aircrafts in the same area around the same time and their experiences were recorded.

One pilot flies for American Airlines and the other for Learjet. They say the light was flying directly above them at about 40,000 feet in the air.
...
But the experienced pilots say this object didn't fly like a normal balloon.

"I don't know of any that would move laterally or even horizontally at 300 miles an hour and to be up at 37,000 feet, you'd expect of whatever platform it was had the capability of travel at that speed," Tracey said. "The bright light. The fact that ATC couldn't see it. The fact that he couldn't distinguish it and the fact that the onboard avionics didn't sense it. When you have two reports so closely together and with the credibility of American Airlines and the credibility of Phoenix Air validating that they saw something -- that raised a lot of suspicions."

The pilot of American flight 1095 later talked to local Texas TV station, KRBC in Abilene, and he said the object didn't look anything like an airplane.

50 years for stealing fajitas? Yes, Texas judge says, when it's $1.2 million worth
Gilberto Escamilla, a former detention worker in Cameron County, Texas, near the U.S.-Mexico border, just got 50 years in prison for stealing fajitas.

Granted, it was a pretty high-stakes venture in the world of fajita theft.

"We feel a strong message should be sent," Cameron County Assistant District Attorney Peter Gilman said in court, according to the Brownsville Herald.

That's because while working at the Darrel B. Hester Juvenile Detention Center in nearby San Benito, Texas, Escamilla made repeated bulk orders of fajita meat over his nine years as a correctional officer, but there was just one problem with those orders.

The Darrel B. Hester Juvenile Detention Center didn't observe Fajita Friday, or serve fajitas to the young people being detained on any other day of the week, according to the McAllen Monitor.

Escamilla pleaded guilty before his sentencing Friday to theft by a public servant, in the amount of $1,251,578.

Appeals court rejects monkey selfie copyright suit

SAN FRANCISCO — U.S. copyright law does not allow lawsuits claiming animals have copyrights to photographs, a U.S. appeals court ruled Monday in a case over selfies taken by a monkey.

The decision by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling in favor David Slater, the photographer whose camera was used to take the photos.

The appeals court said U.S. copyright law confers the right to sue on humans.

... The 9th Circuit also said refusing to dismiss the case “prevents the parties from manipulating” the precedent set by the judge.

Goose attacks teen golfer during Michigan tournament

BLISSFIELD, Mich. - A mama goose in a "fowl" mood went after a high school golfer in Michigan, knocking him to the ground for getting a little too close to her nest.

Blissfield Athletics posted the photos taken by Devon Pitts on Twitter and said that the golfer, Isaac Couling, was OK, but "his pride was hurt." The photos of the teen's attack have quickly gone viral.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Couling was playing in a tournament Saturday at Wolf Creek Golf Course in Adrian. The players were walking along the seventh-hole fairway when he strayed a little too close to the nest, and the goose went after Couling.

The photos got the attention of the PGA, which stated, "Though geese can be beautiful when watching them fly in flocks, the truth is they can be a real nuisance to golfers. And that's without them attacking golfers."

And you thought golf was boring?

Cry Closet' may help Utah students overcome stress of final exams
Students at the University of Utah will have the opportunity to relieve stress during finals week by locking themselves in the school’s Cry Closet for a short period of time.

A student’s tweet about the Cry Closest went viral Tuesday.

so my school installed a cry closet in the library LMFAOOOOOOOOO what is higher education http://pic.twitter.com/6rGcJv9qjr— jacks (@aJackieLarsen) April 24, 2018

The small room in the middle of the Marriott Library on the Salt Lake City campus features a narrow door with dark lining, a plush floor and stuffed animals inside, according to FOX13 Salt Lake City.

“A Safe Place for Stressed Out Students,” a note on the door reads. "This space is meant to provide a place for students studying for finals to take a short 10 minute break.”

Fossilized Human Footprint Found Nestled in a Giant Sloth Footprint.

Last April, Matthew Bennett was lying on a white salt flat in New Mexico, uncovering fossilized footprints that had been preserved in the white rock. The print belonged to a ground sloth—a bulky animal, whose large feet and curved claws left apostrophe-shaped impressions wherever it walked. There were many such tracks around, but Bennett found one that was very different.

Inside the outline of the sloth’s 20-inch-long foot was a human footprint.
Cheers.

Are we about to see the "Return of the Killer Tomatoes"?

Work to replace food defences in Shrewsbury is "progressing well".
The Environment Agency's replacing 25m (82 feet) of sandstone cladding on the Frankwell site.

Since they are likely sobbing at the payments they will be making on their student loans from their social security retirement checks, I don't see the issue in having the place to do it.

Florida woman arrested after allegedly hiding plastic key in chicken sandwich on jail visit
A woman in Florida was arrested Thursday after she was caught allegedly attempting to hide a plastic key inside a chicken sandwich while on a visit to see her imprisoned husband, authorities said.

...While there, she allegedly bought a chicken sandwich, which had been sealed, unwrapped it and warmed it in the microwave, the affidavit said. However, when the food was searched by a correctional officer, they found “a special small plastic handcuff key” hidden inside, according to the document.

Springtime! BBQ time!
First thing first. Bying the grill.
It came with a manual in some 10 languages how to assemble it.
With some warning text that I think an american lawyer have done.
2 hours later we succeeded to make it with all nuts and bolts attached...

However. It worked. And it started not raining until we were done:)

That's a lovely setup. The I Love Lucy episode where Lucy and Ethel deconstruct a bbq and then try to rebuild it pops into my mind. (It didn't turn out so well)

This 0.5K run for underachievers has donuts, coffee and a smoking rest stop

A Facebook event in Boerne is getting the attention of many "underachievers."

The inaugural Boerne .5K will be held on May 5 and will benefit the Blessings in a Backpack organization. According to the Facebook event, the race will be a "very fun, tongue-in-cheek event that will lampoon the typical 5k."

Dodging Duck will be providing a free pint of beer to runners who arrive early at the start of the race at River Road Park. The race will then head to the Cibolo Creek Brewery where participants will receive another free pint of beer.

All race finishers will "receive a pretentious oval Euro-style 0.5k sticker that you can attach to your rear windshield to show everyone what a bada-- you are," according to the event. There will also be a medical tent, that may or may not be fully staffed, in case there are issues along the way.

The event is sold out, but organizers say the event is expected to come back next year.
