I'm going to see Jerry Seinfeld, Thursday night at the Louisville Palace. The venue is an old downtown theatre I love.

Robot fired from Scottish grocery store for poor performance

    * A robot named Fabio was fired from Scottish supermarket chain Margiotta after it failed to assist customers properly and created confusion.
    * Fabio's firing could lend weight to the argument that AI and robotics aren't quite ready to handle customer service in some industries.

While part of the problem was that Fabio simply couldn't do its job, another issue could have been cultural. As noted by our sister site ZDNet, similar Pepper robots are in use in Japan and some tech-friendly stores in California, with some positive impact. It could be that Scottish culture, or the fairly traditional grocery industry, just weren't yet ready for a robot grocery workers. But until AI and robotics can address needs across different industries and cultures, they may not reach broad adoption.

Does Iceland Pay $5,000 Per Month to Immigrants Who Marry Icelandic Women?
Unreliable online sources claimed that that due to a shortage of men, Iceland was offering to pay immigrants to take Icelandic women as their brides.
https://www.snopes.com/iceland-pays-immigrants-to-marry-icelandic-women/
The Danish embassy in Egypt, which handles Icelandic affairs in the region, apparently became so fed up with inquiries from men wanting to take part in the scheme that officials posted a disavowal of the rumor on Facebook:

This little bit in the article caught my eye:
Or, if it heard the question, it might provide too vague of an answer to be of any help,

So very, very human, how often have you asked a store assistant in a strange store "Where's the green lentils", or some other vague question, to be greeted with a blank face, a wave of the hand and "Over there".....

Speaking of cows, oh steers, oh again bulls.
Ferdinand as depicted by Walt Disney

The bull Ferdinand was actually a real bull living in Spain.
He was called Civilon and was a proud warrior born to die on the bullfighting arena.

Oh. Don't try crawling under a bull's or cow's belly at home.

Hehe:)
All Ferdinand (and Civilon for that matter) wanted to do was go under a shady cork tree and smell the flowers all day. Then one day his mother noticed that he wasn't playing with the other bulls. His mom then asked him why he wasn't joining in with them. He replied and said 'All I want to do is to sit and smell the flowers!' Thankfully, his mother was very understanding.

Snapshots From a Land of Endless Night
Readers [of the NY Times] describe the thrills and challenges of wintertime in the Far North.
For those who live just above the Arctic Circle, there is at least one day a year when the sun never pushes above the horizon. But there are many people who live even farther north who, after the winter solstice, don’t see the sun for weeks.

We asked readers who know arctic winters well to share their stories and photos of life in the polar darkness. Nearly 700 readers responded from areas all around the Arctic Circle.

Fools and their crypto

What should we do about token sales?

Two days ago a Lithuanian “company” called Prodeum looked like a promising if silly blockchain startup. Their stated goal? To track every piece of food on the internet. While I doubt many of us will care about the exact provenance of the orange we just ate, we could see, in some distant future, a need for this sort of tracking.

...Then the whole thing imploded.

On the 28th the scam shut down, leaving a website containing a single word: p****.

What kind of exotic "support" animal will someone try next that will be denied??

Woman denied emotional support peacock on United flight

Birds of a feather may flock together, but United Airlines recently shot down one traveler’s request to bring her emotional support peacock on a flight departing Newark Liberty International Airport.

Live and Let Fly reported earlier this week that even though the unidentified woman claimed that she had a second ticket for the peacock, the airline denied her request.

A spokesperson for United further tells FOX News that the traveler(s) with the peacock were told they would not be able to bring it on board.

"This animal did not meet guidelines for a number of reasons, including its weight and size. We explained this to the customers on three separate occasions before they arrived at the airport," said United in a statement.

If you need to take an animal with you for support to fly, then don't fly.

Dead goose falls from sky, knocks hunter unconscious

EASTON, Md. (AP) — A waterfowl hunter is in stable condition after a dead goose fell from the sky and knocked him unconscious.

[He] was hunting with three other people when one of them fired at a flock of Canada geese overhead in Easton, near the Miles River on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson said a falling goose hit Meilhammer, knocking him out and causing head and facial injuries.
