Hello. i was wondering if the nvidia tesla gpu cards are worth buying for this project?. amazon has a few older ones like the m2075 and m2090. i heard they are the ideal gpu processor for this type of work unlike the gaming style of gpu cards which are not designed for this type of thing. i think the lower clock speed of the tesla gpus should keep the card cooler which for long session of crunching . so there in the card would then last longer..
I bet you E.T has already been here. He/She already left without making a sound while thinking "this place is nuts!! I'm out'a here!!!

Is it worth to buy a coprocessor that still costs $4,000 to this day, versus a normal GPU? I don't know, but if you feel it justified to spend so much money on these, then you should do so. Do know that the main thing they're good at, being able to do double-precision calculations, isn't used at this project.

I suspect that a GTX 1070 will run circles around the M2075, 2432 shader cores vs 448, also at a tenth of the price. But as said, if you feel it justified to run with the older cards, there's no one standing in your way.

If you do it because you feel that normal graphics cards aren't built for these calculations, then best ask that source you got the info from where they got it. As it's not really true. The same shaders used to do the CUDA and OpenCL calculations are used to do the calculations for screen output for DirectX and OpenGL.
Yes, running bitcoin calculations 24/7 with 6 of these next to each other can wear out these cards. But they'll wear out the Tesla's just the same. This project searches for aliens though, not for blockchains.

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/gpu_list.php shows the most used GPUs used here at the project. For ideas.

There is no advantage in using tesla unless you already have them. The high capital cost is not reflected in an appropriate performance enhancement.
