I had a scanner (CanoScan LIDE 20) which I could not use because no Windows 64-bit driver was ever developed for it. I had to keep it plugged into an old laptop I used for little else. Just for giggles I tried it on 64-bit Linux Mint 17.2 when I first installed it as I had read Mint/Ubuntu supported about 2,400 different scanner models, and, lo and behold, it worked right away without installing anything else. This pretty much sold me on using Linux as my full-time productivity OS, not just for SETI@Home.

I also have a very old CanoScan LIDE (N656U) which gave me driver problems when I went from XP to Win7 x64. Found a little program called VueScan, and the scanner works just fine to this day.

...Ghia...

Off to find a copy of VueScan if I can, in hopes my LIDE20 will work and I can dump the XP box I keep just to support the scanner.
It may be you have made my day!

Oh well, nice thought but:
Doesn't indicate support for Win 10 and they want $40 to find out or they watermark each scan...

In my case, the "old reliable" scanner for which I keep the Win98 machine is an Epson Perfection 636U. I did try it out with VueScan earlier this year on my daily driver under Win7. It worked, but I found the interface rather limited and a bit clunky, as I recall, relative to the old Twain driver that was specific to the Epson.

Anybody any thoughts on how quick the RAC should recover after the outage? Mine was quick to drop but has not shown much sign of recovery despite crunching 100% since Saturday morning.

Slowly.
If there are no other unexpected or extended outages I expect mine to be back where it was in a few weeks.

It takes a while because of the Pendings. If you have very fast CPUs/GPUs most of your work units will be waiting for slower wing-hosts who take correspondingly longer to return their results, and you don't get your credit until they do. The outage was three days so they mostly emptied their caches and reported their results during that time thus resetting your wait timer.

You can check this by watching your Pendings and seeing if they are increasing over time. Once it stabilizes your RAC will start increasing.

Many thanks, all the explanations kind of make sense. Looking at validation pending it looks to be back to what it was before the outage about 2.5 times In progess number so hopefully next stats update will start to see an increase.

I even tried Mr.Kevvy's rescheduler to increase my processing credit rate. I think I sent a PM, did you see it OK? I say think because I wonder if I actually pressed the send button, not used the PM function much on these forums.

. . Allow it a couple of weeks ... for full recovery maybe a little longer ...

I've left one rig out of service after the outage and subsequent DB disaster for cleaning and a little tweaking, I'm not expecting much RAC improvement anyway so it seemed like a good time.

There are plenty of CPU tasks for MB available, but see you don't have them. Check your web preferences to make sure you have CPU selected. Either that or you didn't install a CPU app with the Lunatics installer. AVX for the Ryzen, SSE3 for the Xeon.

Some users have had an issues where their system would not receive CPU tasks when their GPU cache was full.
A workaround is to uncheck the GPU in your project prefs, update to get new settings, and then CPU tasks should be assigned on the next update.
Once you have CPU tasks recheck the GPU in your project prefs.

I reinstalled lunatics and used the same settings and I got a dozen CPU on the Ryzen pc, but none on the Xeon. I unchecked GPU on that one and I will wait and see if it works. Thank you guys.

No luck on the Xeon. Maybe I should install the resceduler and see if that helps. Or do I have to have at least one CPU already?

It does indicate support for Win10. I have not paid for the program, and have no watermarks. But then, I have v.9.4.48 , not the current v.9.5.92.
Yes, the interface is rather clunky, but one gets used to it. I find it better than the alternatives (keeping an old XP-machine around or buying a new scanner).

I don't know if rescheduling would help or not. I haven't run into that specific issue myself.
For others swapping settings and poking BOINC with a stick would resolve their issue.

I suppose if rescheduling some tasks does get things flowing a project reset in BOINC might work, but I never like doing a project reset myself.

Anybody any thoughts on how quick the RAC should recover after the outage? Mine was quick to drop but has not shown much sign of recovery despite crunching 100% since Saturday morning.

Mine stopped falling as of yesterday.
Going back up again will take a week or so to get near to what it was. It all depends on the work mix whether it will take a couple of weeks to get back where it was, or not even get that high (at this stage).

My RAC started to recover much quicker but it is only a fraction of yours so did not fall so far. Alas the rate of recovery has now slowed down, hardly moved at all from the last stats update. Only had two days crunching with my new graphics card before the outage so looks like I wil have to wait a few weeks to work out the impact it is having. I estimate it is giving 5-6000 extra credits a day, not as much I had hoped for really.

The usual maintenance slot warning is not posted on the home page today. Maybe we will have a free Tuesday following the outage? I'll find out when I get home from work this evening.
