Anybody any thoughts on how quick the RAC should recover after the outage? Mine was quick to drop but has not shown much sign of recovery despite crunching 100% since Saturday morning.

Mine stopped falling as of yesterday.
Going back up again will take a week or so to get near to what it was. It all depends on the work mix whether it will take a couple of weeks to get back where it was, or not even get that high (at this stage).

. . Same here, after nearly 48 hours of crunching the RAC stopped dropping. Now the long slow ascent back to "normal".

The usual maintenance slot warning is not posted on the home page today. Maybe we will have a free Tuesday following the outage? I'll find out when I get home from work this evening.

. . And here I have been squirelling away nuts all day ... OOPS!

It is still Monday in Berkeley. Look again after 08:00 UTC.

. . Now that's a relief, it was not all for nought after all.

My RAC started to recover much quicker but it is only a fraction of yours so did not fall so far. Alas the rate of recovery has now slowed down, hardly moved at all from the last stats update. Only had two days crunching with my new graphics card before the outage so looks like I wil have to wait a few weeks to work out the impact it is having. I estimate it is giving 5-6000 extra credits a day, not as much I had hoped for really.

. . So what new toy did you buy yourself?

. . Well I have had good results with my 1060's (waiting on a new rig to get back into it) as has Wiggo. They were very close to my 970s in productivity. I think as things settle down they will impress you.

Yep, MB splitting ending in errors again. :-(

Cheers.

More of those fugly grey lines in the Splitter status. Looks to be an instant replay of last week.

I fired off a mail to Eric to let him know - if he was not aware.

EDIT: A Quick Reply:
Thanks for letting me know. It's probably a hang with transfers from the old database table to the new table. I'll check it out right now.

It all happened whilst asleep. What was visble to us users: what symptoms did you see? Will the tasks we crunched still be valid scientific work?

That depends on what the errors during splitting are. Recently the errors have been "fatal at source" and the workunit has not been sent out. One thing that is not commonly understood is that if a segment on a tape has one workunit that spilts "with an error" the whole of that segment is flagged "grey", but the "good" workunits are still sent out for processing. However today's "little problem" looks to be one that is stopping the transfer of data from the tape into the database as workunits, hence Eric stopping the splitters so there is a known hard-point to work from. when everything comes back to life later today.

LOL.....
Not sure that I find server problems 'exciting'.
But, it surely is part of the Seti experience, shall we say.

Lesson learned from the last outage and my backup project at 0% resource allocation kicked in nicely about 3.5 hours ago.

Sure hope the database issue is fixable and it is not something serious enough to stop new advancements in the search.

Our woes are a small cog in the Great Mandala of the cyber world.......the friend I built the new Win7 sys for called me a couple hours ago, after manually installing their M$ Win updates by hand due to execution failures, they couldn't access their email accounts.

Long story made a bit shorter, the problem turned out that Comcast/Xfinity has had problems since 09:00 UTC(timeouts on connection) with their mail server, voice mail server and I personally noticed a problem with phone call record history and the DVR service which I suspect could be database related as I couldn't access a stored program via cable box.

Let's hope our woes are short and relatively easy.

Yeah, CC started pushing their new webmail client a couple days ago. Been down most of this morning, and slower than can be when it's up. Better, I guess, but as usual things not tested, loss of previous functionality and zero decent change communication.
