Have you tried the "exclusive_app" flag in cc_config.xml to suspend Boinc when you watch your videos?

If i do that the Boinc will stop the crunching process, that is exactly the opositive i´m trying to do.

My goal is to keep crunching Seti GPU WU while see the video.

Everything looks normal with respect to crunching times for 1060 3GB card. But I wonder if something is corrupted. Looked back through the thread and I don't see any statement that you have uninstalled the app and reinstalled the app with the Lunatics Installer. I wonder if maybe the SoG app .CL file, the wisdom files or the MB cLFFT files are corrupted or from an earlier version of the video driver and are somehow screwing up movie playback. I wonder if the JIT compute cache binaries are corrupted or from an earlier version. I am just spit-balling ideas here.

You could stop BOINC fully and uninstall the SoG app and reinstall it with the Lunatics installer. Then delete the wisdom file for the SoG app and the MB_cLFFt files associated with the current video driver. You can also delete all the old files associated with older video drivers. Those file will get created when the first SoG task gets run. I would also delete all the /Slots in the Seti project directory. Those will get recreated when you restart BOINC. Finally I would delete the binaries in the Nvidia Compute Cache and all the directories there. That is located at x://Users/username/AppData/Roaming/Nvidia/ComputeCache. When you restart BOINC, everything will be new. If that fixes the issue, then I am a genius. If not, I give up and would say just go with the CUDA50 app.

I allready do the cleaning process and reinstall all from clean installation.

Even the windows was reinstalled from zero. A new compleate instalation.

Running CUDA5 I allready try, but is not a real option, crunching blc WU is to slow on it.

Will leave the host running S@H CPU WU only and leave the GPU crunching E@H or GPUGrid. Both builds not produces the lag problem.

I´m allmost sure the source of the problem is in the code itself. Not say its a bug, it´s probabily the way the software works, something hidden in some polace, since the lag appears randomly, that´s indicate me it´s probabily a conflict in some timing. But that is for the dev´s to explain.

But I can't subscribe to that scenario because there are plenty of GTX 1060 3GB in use here. I would guess it is a very common card ...... and no one else except you has complained about this problem. The card has been out on the market for a year too so I would think this issue would have cropped up by now. I think there is something wrong with either your card or your motherboard. The video core on the card doesn't get used by the compute engine when it is doing compute. When you also try to do movie playback, the video core then comes into play along with the main compute processor. I think that the extra work or current necessary to run the video core along with the compute core is what is tripping up your card. It is not working correctly and falls on its face when you play a movie. The type of compute that the SoG app does is just different enough from Einstein to show the deficiency in your card. As I stated, where are all the other GTX 1060 3GB card users complaints if the card design itself is the problem. If you have a duff card, then you have a single incident case and not applicable to the card product family or the SoG app likely.

The only way to troubleshoot your problem is by substitution. A different GTX 1060 3GB or lesser card and a different motherboard.

The only way to troubleshoot your problem is by substitution. A different GTX 1060 3GB or lesser card and a different motherboard.

The same behaviour happens on 3 diferent MB and cards (1060/1070 & 1080Ti) the only thing in common is the X99 chipset, they are even from diferent brands.

Not sure about i´m the only one... if you look ChrisS post he have similar issue (but not with movies) with his 1060. As he say, to do anything else he needs to snooze Boinc...

I belive most of the users actualy stops boinc when do other things, that´s why they did not suffer from the problem.

My only regard about the problem is because with this problem i´m forced to stop crunching S@H GPU WU on this hosts.

BTW In this host (my main cruncher, another X99MB with 3x1070+980Ti) i have a similar behaviour but since i don´t care about small delays in the screen i simple ignore. But again, only when SoG GPU build is running, i could run 8 E@H GPU WU + 4 Seti CPU or 4 GPUGrid WU + 8 Seti CPU WU with no lag. But if i start the SoG GPU Wu, the lag appears.

I guess the other people afflicted haven't been as vocal and brought attention to the problem. The normal method of counteracting the impact of crunching on systems has been to use the <>exclusive_app</> option in cc_config. Or just stop BOINC entirely. If you choose neither of those options, you'll just have to quit SETI SoG MB processing and either use the CUDA app or move to Einstein GPU work.

Here is a workaround but it is awkward.
Set Einstein to a zero resource share.
Suspend Seti when watching videos and Einstein will kick in.
Remember to resume Seti when the movie is over.

Nice tip but since it only runs when used to see the media, the Seti work will be stoped all the time.

Anyway thanks.

hi, perhaps have to know what sort of video app do u use with special opt in with CPU or GPU video decoding with VLC / MPC special configuration ?

full CPU decoding can help avoiding lags ?

The common MPC with no special configuration.

full CPU decoding can help avoiding lags ?

I wish i know how to do that. Happy to test if somebody explain me how to do that.

Sorry for the delay to answer, i was sleeping.
