IIRC, it is not a comparison between the cards, but has more to do with the amount of work returned by each by users - if you will note, the 3gb 1060 is higher up in the list than the 6gb!

Still a lot of lags when you see a regular (not even at 720) series or a movie on the host by using windows media payer.

I could do that when crunch on the GPU on E@H but not in S@H

I´m triying even running only 1 CPU and 1 GPU WU at a time on the host (with a 6850 CPU) and -period_iterations_num 50

Any other idea?

Juan, so this is a daily driver? change the following commandlines to and add the use sleep command

-sbs 512 -period_iterations_num 50 -use_sleep

Even when you see a movie for example? Could be a MB/CPU/GPU related. It´s a X99P-SLI MB from Gigabyte

It´s my son computer, he only use to see some movies/tv series (low resolution) most of the time, so if i could find a way to configure it i could use on S@H. When he do gaming i allready stop the Boinc.

Allready try a more consevative set -sbs 128 -period_iterations_num 250 -no_defaults_scaling as described in the SOG help doc but the lag remains, a lot less but remains.

That will give me about 90% CPU and 90% GPU use. Therefore if I want to do anything else like surf the web or chat on bulletin boards etc I have to Snooze Boinc while I do.

GPU usage is in the range of 93-97% and CPU 8% is amost free (1 GpU + 1 CPU WU only on a 6 cores Host)

That´s exacy what i want to avoid, is very unconfortable to see a movie with lags, since is my son computer i need something who not mess when he see his movies or i´m forced to stop the entire Boinc for hours, something like happening when you crunch E@H in the host, you coud continue to use the host allmost normaly.

In the past with CUDA versions and with even ess powerfull GPU´s that was easely avoid.

I have 2 others hosts (6800CPU+ 1070/1080Ti) with the similar situation. I

I try, the problem is the same.

Allready try a more consevative set -sbs 128 -period_iterations_num 250 -no_defaults_scaling as described in the SOG help doc but the lag remains, a lot less but remains.

BTW Answering the Chris question at the begining of this thread. My crunching (In SETI) times show, the 1070 crunchers about 2x faster than the 1060 and the 1080Ti it´s about 70% faster than the 1070. The 980Ti it´s a 20% faster than the 1070 but uses more power.

Maybe i was not clear

It´s a 6 core CPU (12 Threads) and i only use 1 core by running 1 GPU +1 CPU only (2 total) the others 5 cores (10 threads) are free

Obviously, BOINC is chewing up motherboard resources to the detriment of watching movies. There is plenty of horsepower left in the cpu for decoding/transcoding the movie so I think that interrupts are being hogged by BOINC or PCIe bus requests or throughput is being impacted. What kind of PCIe slot is the gpu in? Is it possible to move it to a X16 slot if it is in a X4 slot for example? Are there any other background processes running? Open up Resource Monitor and look at which processes are consuming the most cpu time. Use a utility to move all BOINC processes and tasks down to Low Priority from their normal Below Normal priority.

It´s on the PCIe slot 0, a 16X for sure (only one GPU instaled) in a X99 MB

In theory only Boinc and the movie player was running, but with Windows you never realy knows.

Will try your sugestion when i arrive at home latter, i tried before to increase the priority (up to real time) of the Media Player without success.

Well there is always a LOT of Windows background processes running. Normally they have minimal impact on system responsiveness. But a rogue process can get out of control or hung up and consume more than normal cpu time. I would try Task Manager and then >> Resource Monitor from Task Manager. Look for processes that are consuming abnormally large amount of cpu time. On my eight core systems, a SETI MB CPU task consumes 12-13% of cpu time for example. Another utility you can try and is more focussed on media playback is Latency Monitor That tells you what processes are consuming resources in detriment to media playback by impacting latency and are causing large latencies. It's the latencies that are preventing smooth playback from movies.

Starting to test like Keith sugest, down th epriority and look for the latency.

Both my i5 rigs run 2 CPU tasks while the other 2 cores each feed a 1060 and I can watch 1080p video with no problems at all so your problem has me perplexed, I only have to suspend crunching while doing video editing.
