While I agree that there would be a period of adjustment...I really do not think it would be total collapse......and besides if they are close by....then when it is an acceptable time....they will make themselves known...and not through some shaky distant light in the sky shot with a 1960's type recorder...
There will be no mistake....There is no lid big enough...:-)

Based on what I have seen regarding many people's religious beliefs I too think the masses are not ready for such a revelation. But I also believe that there is no reliable evidence of visitation by aliens.
