Which has been followed by a 7.4 and now a marine tsunami warning for Norfolk Island has been issued.

Reports are now coming from across the ditch that a New Zealand volcano has erupted (I didn't catch its name while doing the dishes) and a warning has now been issued for the possibility of it raining volcanic rocks. :-O

[edit] A warning has just been issued that more quakes can be expected.

Watch for the color of the sky to change. I was under St Helen's ash fall. About a hour before the ash started to fall the color of the sky shifted towards green and yellow. The color of everything changed.

Meanwhile in Japan.

Tsunami warning lifted after huge earthquake.

Japan’s meteorological agency lifted a tsunami advisory around an hour after a strong 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the country’s northeastern coast on Saturday, causing no immediate damage or injuries.

The quake hit at 6:09pm (8:09 AEDT) in Pacific waters off Miyagi region with a depth of 60 kilometres, the JMA said, issuing an advisory for tsunami waves of around one metre.

Thousands of households received evacuation warnings over the tsunami alert, which has lifted, prompting municipalities to also end the evacuation measures.

Local utilities and the nation’s nuclear authority said the region’s nuclear plants did not show any abnormalities after the latest quake, although local railway firms suspended services, including the high-speed shinkansen bullet trains.

Meanwhile on the other side of the globe Iceland is having its own rock 'n' roll show with lights:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-56470597
50,000 quakes in a matter of days, followed by a pyrotechnic display by Fagradalsfjall, a volcano that has slumbered for about 800 years.

Looking at a map this volcano appears to be mid way between Reykjavik and Iceland's main airport, Keflavik, which are only about 40 miles apart. So far none of the massive disruption to air traffic caused by the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull eleven years ago.

Reports that the 4,049-foot La Soufrière volcano erupted on St. Vincent early Friday, sending a two-mile high cloud of ash bellowing above the tropical Caribbean island just hours after surrounding communities were ordered evacuated.

Yeah, but what good does it do to shake ones fist at a Volcano?

Time to rebuild.

Meanwhile here down under yesterday a bit of shaking was going on down south.

A magnitude 5.8 quake has caused widespread damage in Melbourne, but one key thing has prevented a total disaster.

And.

Geologist explains the cause of earthquake that rocked Melbourne.

The thing that they left out of that explanation is that New Zealand is also closing in on us at 3cm per year adding to the pressure on the continent as well and slowly turning it clockwise.

Anyhow more aftershocks are expected.

Cheers.
