Been quiet for a while, but things appear to be picking up again- had a quake in the Banda sea a week or two back that gave Darwin a shake. And there had been a smaller quake & plenty of after shocks a day or so before this latest one in California. Grant Darwin NT |

Yes it has been quiet which is why I had to get this thread unlocked (thanks Bernie) and what happens elsewhere has its own thread (somewhere here pages back), but that's time locked as well now (and that's not my thread or region anyway). ;-) Cheers. |

This is biggest I've had to ride out a 7.1, Sylmar was a 6.6 back in 1971, 48yrs ago, I was 11yrs old then. I remember a few things like being woken up in Dominguez CA 90810(part of the City of Carson today), one of the Van Norman reservoirs had a crack and had to be drained as it was on a fault line and was in danger of collapse the news said and is a park today, the 2nd was a bit later when My parents and I were going north on i5 on a planned trip, as We passed the ruined CA14/i5 interchange and there was this '63ish Chevy pickup under a collapsed section, except for the tailgate, the rest was under several feet of concrete overpass. Hopefully the people in the pickup got out before the pickup had the overpass collapse on it. The earthquake resistant foundation system the county wanted installed worked as designed here, well worth the $1500 it cost Me in late 2006, this is the 4th quake its been thru. Everyone here is ok here, though Ridgecrest got hit with what amounts to a Double Whammy and I'm about 69 miles from there as the crow flies from a search that I did just now. While China Lake NWS has damage it seems as if NASA's DSN at Goldstone is still operational. |

There is a wiki page for that, through which we learn you guys have a front row seat on the South West Seismic Zone. I'm no evolutionary biologist, but I'd bet a cold beer or two that this region is also where your bouncing wallabies and 'roos originate from.
