I'm not sure I've seen any Arecibo work.

Your systems have plenty of it.
Any Multi Beam WU that doesn't have BLC in it's name is Arecibo work.

I wish I had a better metric to judge this on

You do- Run time for a given type of WU.
Use RAC to compare your system with others. But for system or configuration changes, WU Run time gives you the fastest, and most accurate, indication.

Judging by the graph, the CUDA10.1 special client is about 6 times faster than the "official" OpenCL one.
As an "outsider" I don't understand why cripples the project itself on purpose by not making it an official app. (Sorry, I won't dig the 2 million post on the forum for a self-justificatory explanation.)
I consider it an awful waste of space computing power. Obviously the "powers that be" doesn't.

SETI@Home is perpetually short of personnel since Breakthrough Listen absorbed many of its staff. The few who are left don't have the time to run rigorous testing on a non-standard application to verify it meets all of the criteria that their own app. does, to rewrite the scheduling code to distribute different versions of it for different CUDA Compute levels, and do whatever else is required to integrate it officially into the project. (As well as SETI@Home, they are also involved with other projects such as other non-SETI research, some Breakthrough Listen duties and teaching.)

As well, this app. is unfortunately for Linux only. This is simply because that's the platform the developer was familiar with, and the driver model is different in Linux than Windows, so the changes/optimizations won't port over... it can't just be recompiled with Windows libraries in the Windows CUDA development suite and work. It would have to be re-optimized from scratch for Windows with different changes. I would conclude that the admins. have correctly surmised that anyone on Linux is already going to be using it, as many (most?) of us converted over just to do so.

I hope this makes it a bit clearer.

Thanks for the watt-hr/credit analysis Zoltan. Very good argument that we are being the most energy and resource efficient by crunching with the special app.

And one can always power limit the cards to get even more energy savings at not much more increase in compute times.

Or swaping the 1080's and the 1070's
;)

Unfortunately, the 1080's are EVGA AIO cards. I don't have the physical room for the radiators in the custom loop chassis as the twin 360 radiators already commandeer all the available mounting space.

Darn. What you need is a "TEXAS SIZED" MB one with a LOT of space for your "steers". :)

I wonder if one of these X570's would be a reasonable slot spacing up grade?

Tom

The motherboard isn't the problem. The computer case is the problem. No more room to mount the AIO radiators. The cards are the standard two slot wide cards of the reference design, just with 120mm radiators attached. I have both the Thermaltake X5 and X9 cases so they are about as big as they come.

Ah, MINING case :)

Not enough information. What gpus??? 1080 Ti's ?? 2080 Ti's or GTX 1650's??? VERY different power usages under BOINC computing.

Interesting calculator. It says it costs $6600 a year to run my daily driver and I need a 1350W power supply.

Then stick to the 1060's, even if you pay a bit more them as they'll process more work for way less lower. ;-)

Cheers.

So is it close? What kind of PSU you got in there?

If it's a 1.2kW supply.

Roughly 6*120= 720W.
Add another 200w for system power (CPU, motherboard, fans, water pump etc) gives around 900W
You don't want to continuously load your PSU much more than 75% of it's rated maximum, so that means a 1.2kW PSU.

Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, Enermax etc.
Best to go with the well known brands, prices are all fairly close to each other for a PSU of a given efficiency rating & power output. A power supply a lot cheaper than others of the same rating- avoid like the plague. Getting a cheap PSU is just asking for trouble.

Well I know a 1600 watt PSU will run 6 gtx 1060 3GB's so you could always over kill it... I have had excellent luck with the used EVGA PSU's on eBay. (I have bought 2 and both are running fine).

3 months since the last update, i'm wondering if there would be enough RTX Super series cards to make it on to the list now?

Are the Super cards distinguishable from the non-super cards?

Yep, like the GTX 1060 3GB & GTX 1060 6GB cards are identifiable as different models.
