I am not sure how to set all the settings on settings page. How do I know if my chosen settings impact my computer's performance in anyway. Also, how do I know the program is working correctly, will I get a notification of some kind?

First you need to attach a computer to the project, then you can worry about the settings to optimise its running for your your computer and working habits.
