Has anyone asked whether it would be beneficial to re-process the older SETI tapes with this dramatically lower noise computational scheme and thus extend the previous results?

Ok so I first started lending my computer time to this project in the early days and have always since done what I could to help expand the project! I commend the people who have given theyre time and energy to keep this project going!!! KUDOS ALL!!! May this be fruitful in my lifetime!

I've read the message few weeks ago about the KIC8462850 star batch.
Was a bit sad as I hadn't seen then any of these work unit names in my queues.
But today, I have reveived about 15 of these work units on my 4 machines.
Exciting !!
But I read an article on a science blog and magazine saying that earlier this month, the Seti had already announced there is no chance that any extraterrestrial message be found in these work units...
More over this article ended on "Seti is actually useless, as it listens on useless radio frequencies ..."

Guys, what is your point of view about this ?

Very briefly: We are searching in a very favourableppart of the radio spectrum. called 'the waterhole'. That is a pun on the very good transmissions at these frequencies and also an association with H2O - water.

This is the best we can do with our technology. As we advance, and as our physics advances, we will do more. For now, this is the best search we have.

And we are learning new things!

It is not a seperate project. The work units were distributed here on SETI@Home

The new study does not solve all of KIC 8462852's mysteries, however. For example, it does not address the short-term 20 percent brightness dips, which were detected by NASA's planet-hunting Kepler space telescope. (Kepler is now observing a different part of the sky during its K2 extended mission and will not follow up on Tabby's star for the forseeable future.)
And a different study—led by Joshua Simon of the Observatories of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Pasadena, California—just found that Tabby's star experienced two brightening spells over the past 11 years. (Simon and his colleagues also determined that the star has dimmed by about 1.5 percent from February 2015 to now.)
"Up until this work, we had thought that the star's changes in brightness were only occurring in one direction—dimming," Simon said in a statement. "The realization that the star sometimes gets brighter in addition to periods of dimming is incompatible with most hypotheses to explain its weird behavior."

Strange brightness dips

KIC 8462852, which lies about 1,500 light-years from Earth, has generated a great deal of intrigue and speculation since 2015. That year, a team led by astronomer Tabetha Boyajian (hence the star's nicknames) reported that KIC 8462852 had dimmed dramatically several times over the past half-decade or so, once by 22 percent.

I have no clue whatsoever what my computer is doing, or what any of these messages mean, what the data means or what it signifies, but, I am familiar with SETI, Berkeley, the University of California and I grew up in the sixties watching the Space Race in all its glory and I am very happy that my computer is online and I am helping out wherever I can.
When I was a boy I wanted to be a rocket scientist but fate had other ideas about what my life would turn out to be.
So, thank you for what you are doing here and allowing a Philistine Peasant to help out !!! [/img]

According to "Nature" the Chinese FAST radiotelescope has detected its first two pulsars in August and may be used to search for life forms in other planetary systems.

There has been a "re-observations" run for the most promising/plausible candidates a few years ago.

There is now another push to score the present results with the Nebula work that Dr Anderson is working through at present.


Don't hold your breath. We're in this search for the very long run.

Meanwhile, we've mapped the hydrogen and structure of our Milkyway Galaxy, and discovered a few other bits and pieces along the way...
