I've just been reviewing the logs on the four crunchers while I was outside. The common element seems to be requests for work with the result of "no tasks available" messages interspersed with successful requests for work that either get my maximum 20 task download or the request gets a tit for tat task download for whatever the amount of tasks reported in that cycle. So I might be simply seeing hits on the feeder buffer which is only holding VLAR tasks at the moment when I hit it and it won't send them to my Nvidia hosts and successful requests when the buffer is holding the normal intermix of Arecibo and GBT tasks.

Keith, a bunch of us use TeamViewer to keep an eye on our headless machines.

Z, I have the Team Viewer client. Is there a master program that connects to the clients or is the program all the same? I don't know anything about it. Just downloaded from the link the SMA people provided and I had to provide them with some keys or codes or something that was on my client end. I really don't remember. I will have to investigate and educate myself. I do remember the remote mouse movements and file editing seemed to be very responsive. I don't know what the remote desktop refresh rate looked like since I wasn't on the other end of the connection. That was very different from my last experiences at remote desktop viewing back in the late 90's. I guess the technology and of course the hardware has massively improved.

Since neither of my machines are headless, I just use BoincTasks to keep an eye on the cache/

Well I downloaded the software onto each of my computers and then the regular version on to my laptop. I remote into all of them from my laptop. I had to make an account on Teamviewer then once you verify your information, you can add computers to your account. When you add teamviewer to each computer you will need those same info that you gave to your main teamviewer account to add the computer. Once you do that, you should be able to remote connect into the computer. Takes a bit to get it up and running but once you do, it goes pretty fast.

Thanks for the quick info Z. I need to hit up the Team Viewer web site and get registered. I need to get it onto my imaging laptop and get all the clients logged in. Need to practice how to use it this week.

OK, WTF. Why have all my edited cc_config files returned to their previous bloated state?? Do you have to change file permissions on the file to read only to keep BOINC from rewriting the file? All the files have gone back to their previous _EVERY_option listed format. The file has returned to 5K size. I had edited all of them down to 1K in size with only a few options enabled.

And once again I totally misjudged how many tasks I would need to make it through the outage. I didn't factor in that I wouldn't also NOT be running any MilkyWay or Einstein work. I would have run up against the BOINC 1000 task limit anyway on the Linux special app cruncher.

I wouldn't think so either unless there are some hidden settings or ones in BoincTasks that I am not familiar with. I think it is set on defaults mostly. Still can't explain why all the files got changed ..... unless I am doing some surreptitious 'sleep-computing' during the night.

. . Damn, I managed to squirrel away enough work to survive the outage itself (largely because there were 100 Arecibo VLAR tasks in the mix and they take 250% as long to crunch) only to run out of work half an hour after the outrage is over because the project has no tasks available :(

Yikes! The RTS buffer is slowly dwindling
As a side note, I don't have the issues you guys have when requesting work. I get my full 200 task buffer right when the server comes back up

Not by much really. I have a 40 Mhz bump in the core clock and a 200 Mhz bump in the memory clock. The cards do their own GPU Boost thing which amazes me since two of them are running close to 80° C because of their poor ventilation since they are in adjacent slots.
