True, in respect that the vehicle was found to be roadworthy at the time the test was conducted and the certificate issued. However, the mileage readings at the time are also there, so, if a vehicle has been 'clocked', it would be easy to spot. It is also nice when can you see any advisories, too. How about that car parked up the road for the last four days? Easy to see if it might have been dumped....no tax or MOT means probably dumped and probably not insured, so shouldn't be on thee road. Personally, I wish we still had tax discs, but then I'd like MOT discs too. Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

Who a particular plate is issued to and whether it's taxed, insured, etc. are considered to be private information. In fact, the states don't know if you have insurance. If you get stopped for a traffic offense, you have to show proof of insurance, but it's not something that's in their computers. I didn't mean to imply that insurance isn't required in Illinois. It's just not data the state tracks. Like I said, if you get pulled over you have to show proof of insurance or get a ticket for not having it, even if you don't get one for whatever it was you were pulled over for. Emissions testing is only done in Illinois in the Chicago and St. Louis metro areas. It used to be done on a roller with a tailpipe probe, but now they just plug their computer into your car's computer port. No problem David, all states are different, some grumbled when auto insurance was made mandatory in CA, not anymore. CA HSR built a foundation, is laying Track! But I suppose the attractiveness of your plates does beat ours I've always liked the natural and distinctive simplicity of Colorado's plate: ![]() ![]() |

California doesn't just have one plate, but lots of variation, too many to display here, so I'll post a couple of links instead: https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=California+Car+License+Plates&FORM=RESTAB https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=California+Car+License+Plates+disabled&qs=n&form=QBIR&sp=-1&pq=california+car+license+plates+disabled&sc=0-38&sk=&cvid=7BBEC9D8A01B4D82BA6579A8FF61AD74 My plate being a plate for a disabled individual has the only 1040 that I will ever have to deal with ever again. :) CA HSR built a foundation, is laying Track! California doesn't just have one plate, but lots of variation, too many to display here Piffle. The state lists 15 special interest plates. https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/online/elp/elp Compare that to Illinois' special interest plates http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/vehicles/license_plate_guide/licenseplates.html, bearing in mind that some of those are series. For example, if you click Collegiate Series, there are plates for 20 colleges and universities. Yeah I have a Blue Wheelchair on My license plate, though I received that cause I was judged to not be able bodied anymore back in 2003, that requires a lot of thorough medical evidence, some think wrongly, that bodies don't break, they do break, just like machines break. I take pain pills just stand and walk some, plus the pills hold My body temp down, so I don't melt all over. I also have a Blue Placard that only I can use, if I'm going somewhere with My relatives, I bring it along, saves on walking for Me. CA HSR built a foundation, is laying Track!
