If it is a ban on terrorism, why are the countries that the known terrorists came from, not on that list of banned countries?
Saudi Arabia? Because the Saudis 'know their people' so to speak. Background checks on travelers can be performed and verified plus their government does not make speeches screaming 'Death to the Great Satan' (sic).

Oh, almost forgot............{*} {*}...........still waiting Veracity Police......Muslim Ban........in case you forgot what you were looking for(which you won't find as you well know).

And you can add the UAE to Saudi Arabia, but you still support both terrorist countries so the corrupt chain will never end while the $'s and oil count.

Has anybody here looked into what course will Alabama have to take if Moore is refused a seat.

Do they go through the election farce wasting taxpayer money again?

And what if Moore runs again and is elected again?

Major Kong? Any thoughts?

We have more oil than the Saudis, and probably more money, that dynamic has changed immensely since the advent of fracking. What is the citation for declaring both a 'Terrorist Country'? Exactly what terrorist actions have either nation supported? There are terrorist cells in every corner of the world(even yours as was recently revealed). The point is both have the ability to provide sufficient background and verifiable history to vet any of their residents for travel to the US.

As one clever poster earlier 'chimed' in..........."Sept 11"..................................yup! If we had been using extreme vetting of Saudi nationals then as now they might not have been admitted for 'flight school'.

Cheers..........

Yes... "Disorderly behaviour". Not Political or Social Speech, IE: Radical Left/Right, Anti White/Black, Anti Female/Male, et al beliefs.
"Disorderly behaviour" means whatever 2/3 thinks it means, such as "Political or Social Speech, IE: Radical Left/Right, Anti White/Black, Anti Female/Male, et al beliefs" or expressions.

After he is expelled, what happens next? Is his seat vacant? If not and he hangs on for six years getting a paycheck, voters get exactly what they deserve.

Unlike reps., replacement senators can be appointed and most states insist that the replacement be the same party. So I think if he is elected, he will be admitted to the senate, and there will be a public hearing and if it's decided there's enough evidence he will be expelled. Then he's permanently out of the Senate and the seat stays Republican with an appointee. The Republican majority is slim thus the earnest in keeping this one.

I don't know Alabama's specifics... in some states IIRC an election to confirm appointees is optional.

.......great logic........disenfranchise citizens even if they voted against Moore.

And that's the kind of polarized thinking the extremists on both sides of the spectrum have brought to the mix more than ever before in US history. Punish everyone and let God sort it out.

Has anybody here looked into what course will Alabama have to take if Moore is refused a seat.

While awaiting MajorKong's response.

But how would The Senate do that? They can't bar Moore from taking office. According to a 1969 U.S. Supreme Court decision Edit: Powell v. McCormack, 395 U.S. 486 (1969). Congress only can deny a seat to someone if that person doesn't meet the constitutional requirements of being a U.S. citizen, doesn't reside in the state he or she has been elected to represent, and in the case of a U.S. senator, isn't at least 30 years old.

While those invoking US Constitution Article 1, Section 5:

"Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member."

Yes... "disorderly Behaviour". Not Political or Social Speech, IE: Radical Left/Right, Anti White/Black, Anti Male/Female, et al beliefs.

Well, they can't really refuse Moore a seat... However, for their first piece of business.... they can expel him (2/3rds super-majority).

A replacement? Special election time (in Alabama), though the Governor of Alabama *can* make an interim appointment to the Senate to fill the seat, preserving the Constitutionally mandated equal representation in the US Senate until the next (special) election.

If Moore is elected by the People of the State of Alabama in the upcoming Special Election (Dec. 12, 2017), he goes to the U.S. Senate. If enough of the U.S. Senators (at least 67) disapprove, they can then hold a vote and expel Moore. The Governor of the State of Alabama can then appoint an interim U.S. Senator and then schedule another Special Election to fill the Seat at a later date, perhaps the next Regular Election for that seat (I think in Nov. of 2020). The State law in Alabama is rather vague, in most circumstances, about how long the Governor has to call a Special Election to fill a vacant U.S. Senate seat.

http://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/vacancies-in-the-united-states-senate.aspx
State - Alabama
Interim Gub. Appointment - Yes
Special Election must be held - On such a day as the governor may direct, unless vacancy occurs between 2 and 4 months before the next regularly-scheduled general election, in which case it is held at that election. If vacancy occurs within 60 days of the next regularly-scheduled general election, a special election must be held on the first Tuesday after 60 days have elapsed since the vacancy occurred.

Things really rest with the People of the State of Alabama. What do THEY want? Do THEY wanna keep the rest of the USA 'happy', or engage in a giant pissin' match?

Sorry, but all this comes down to THEIR choice, as it should.

Me, I'm not happy with Moore going around pork'in a bunch of 16-year-old girls back when he was in his 30's... but under the laws of the U.S. Federal Government and the State of Alabama (not to mention 30 other States) 16 is LEGAL. 31 States say the age of consent is 16. 11 States say it is 17 (Texas and New York among them). 8 States say it is 18 (California among them, I believe).

Now then, are you all prepared to state that something can be legal, yet be immoral? That can of worms has a LOT of other effects should you all decide to open it...

MK, I went looking for what happened in prior cases when a Senator was expelled. However as there hasn't been an expulsion since the Civil War and essentially all the expulsions were for supporting the Confederacy, there isn't any real precedent to know if the expelled member's seat is vacant. Unfortunately the Constitution is moot on that point. We have had house members tossed, however the rules for filling those seats are different. While I suspect the seat is vacant, we are talking Mr. Moore and he is very likely to file suit to try and hang onto it. OBW we have had one expulsion reversed. SCOTUS has another case on the docket.

Thank you Major Kong. I thought you could probably apply glass cleaner to the window of perception.

Morality, has been ruled time and again by SCOTUS to be a COMMUNITY issue, hence the varying standards on Pornography, Gambling, Prostitution, usage of Alcohol and Marijuana from State to State and even County to County. Nevada being a prime example of most of those variances from accepted standards in many communities.

So if the people of Alabama feel Roy Moore is an acceptable representative who has the right to say he isn't? Which is what the President has been saying for many months.

And as for poor ole' little Al.........there are photographs and videos of his repeated stupidity. Maybe he can go on the road with Kathy Griffith and the Late Night hosts who have no other material for their monologues that bash Trump.

.........and HE keeps on WINNING!

Yes, what one person/group considers immoral might not be considered immoral by another person/group. This has implications well beyond the subject at hand. You REALLY wanna go there?

I don't. We kinda have to go by what the law says, and leave our personal feelings of immorality to ourselves. If you feel strongly enough that something is wrong, work toward getting the law changed. If a majority feels likewise, then so be it. Otherwise, grin and bear it.
