All remaining albums downloaded to the 'beast', and deleted from the 'bucket'. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

looks like they caught up with me and have obliterated all of my Daddio Cartoons and I presume my other photos that were posted on these boards. |

What is the consensus of where we should go now after Photobucket ?? Probably best to download all of your albums now so you won't lose them. I don't understand why the SETI boards couldn't just accept a JPEG directly just as FaceBook does. |

What is the consensus of where we should go now after Photobucket ?? Probably because Seti doesn't have the space or need to store tens of thousands of JPEGs. Which they would have to do if they were not stored on a server and accessed with a link. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

What is the consensus of where we should go now after Photobucket ?? Because some plonker might come along and post a 30mb gif and suddenly all the seti bandwidth is used up trying to serve the image to dozens of computers. Member of the People Encouraging Niceness In Society club. |

What is the consensus of where we should go now after Photobucket ?? Seti already rescales some pics. Hosting pics like other forums do, would only require money, software, and hardware, will this ever come about? I don't know, My crystal 8 ball is on the blink. Just got everything of mine re-Downloaded to the MAC from Photobucket. Had to "Retry" a couple times on some of the Folders; but, I eventually got everything that I want from the Account back to the MAC. :-) TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

SETI does not re-scale pictures - what it does is use HTML/JS code to tell the browser to present the picture at a size that can be viewed on a particular device. Not every device, and not every browser, supports these commands. Thus if you are unlucky and I upload a full camera resolution to the SETI boards you will be able to download it at full resolution. If SETI re-scaled the image it would have to retain a copy of the re-sized image which they do not do. Had to "Retry" a couple times on some of the Folders; but, I eventually got everything that I want from the Account back to the MAC. :-) I couldn't do that, sure some I did download, the rest I deleted wholesale, I had to do that, I have the originals on My hdd, as a result I may be going offline on July 8th, but then My ISP is Virgin Mobile for the moment, they charge by the GB, for 6GB $58.00, I've spent twice that amount this month, just so I could be a New customer with Spectrum Cable to get Spectrum Internet Assist 30/5 internet access, since they were not allowed to yield on the New customer aspect, on the age 65 for SSI, they could yield. If you need/want to... I created my own online photo repository before I knew about Photobucket. I guess I'll be using it again, now. ~Sue~ |

What is the consensus of where we should go now after Photobucket ?? Why would anyone upload photos/illustrations to an online service without keeping a copy somewhere? I understand maybe not having enough disk space to keep thousands of hi-res photos on one's computer, but at least get a back-up hard drive or some flash drives and save them there. If SETI accepted photos like Facebook does, then SETI would have to have space on its servers for those photos. That would cost money. Facebook charges advertisers. SETI relies on donations. Edit: You can buy a back-up drive with terabytes of space quite cheaply these days. ~Sue~ |

I don't claim to understand the technology/code, but the pics are resized to fit into your browser window. If you resize your browser window while looking at pics, you will see that the pic adjusts accordingly. So I don't think, technically, that SETI is resizing pics. ~Sue~ |

My main irritation and sadness about PB's free demise is the fact all my picture links in my blog are going to be broken, and fixing that via another service will be time-consuming. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

My main irritation and sadness about PB's free demise is the fact all my picture links in my blog are going to be broken, and fixing that via another service will be time-consuming. From things I have read, there are tens of thousands of others in your predicament. And they are just as pissed off. And that is part of what PB is probably counting on. Some will have little recourse or time to make repairs so they will cave in and pay. It is a form of extortion. And I truly think that there are grounds for a class action lawsuit. Service was offered for free for many years, and once people were tied into that service, they suddenly want a king's ransom for anybody to conduct business as usual. That is deception. What is the consensus of where we should go now after Photobucket ?? All of the photos, gif files, and such that are in my Photobucket Account started on one computer back in 2006. That computer is currently in storage. So the originals are on that drive, also in storage. Now, since re-Downloading them from Photobucket to my MAC, they are on my MAC's hard drive. :-) I had some photos that Photobucket deleted themselves; some Star Trek pics; but, I guess they figure those have some "Copyright" issues...???... I have Babylon 5 pics, too; but Photobucket let me keep those. They did delete a B-5 short Video I had Uploaded to the PB Account. So, I have lost some stuff. All the rest is now on Photobucket and on the MAC. If Photobucket dies, I don't care anymore. TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

These sites can be used to post images here (even no account needed, unless you want to) http://postimages.org/ http://picbg.net/ The second may start in Bulgarian but there is English flag at top-right (click that) (text at the top "This site is for sale" stays there for 3-4 years) "direct link" given by picbg.net for seti_logo_final.png (1000 x 200 Pixels) http://store.picbg.net/pubpic/AD/87/91ff74d80d14ad87.png The site has very simplistic interface.
