Hello,
Where is the host file ???
What is the name of it ???
Win7 config

C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/Etc

Copy the above line and paste it into the Windows Explorer address bar (NOT Internet Explorer)

(Yes the last directory is called Etc)

It should take you right there as long as your windows installation is on the C drive

Note that you have to open your editor (Notepad will do) "As Administrator" in order to save changes.

May be a moot point now.
My rigs just started to reconnect within the last twenty minutes or so.

Nothing uploading even with hosts addresses installed. I guess maybe the massive backup or more of the same trouble.

If you got the right addresses added to the right file, uploads should start immediately, or at least on the first retry attempt.

On the other hand, after a day when it's all been working perfectly, I'm now getting 'connect' errors on most attempts, and very slow uploads for the few which connect. All of which are standard symptoms of an over-congested link, which means that DNS is working again and everyone is uploading at once.

Which takes priority...DNS or host file ? (Just wondering what happens if DNS and host file have conflicting DNS addresses).

I *think* the hosts file is authoritative - given the way AV programs use it to block access to viral sources.

It always used to be the "hosts" file.
