Dear all, I am experiencing this issue since yesterday and I cannot upload my tasks. Does anyone knows what is going on? 6/26/2017 1:34:03 PM | SETI@home | Scheduler request failed: Couldn't resolve host name 6/26/2017 1:34:04 PM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 6/26/2017 1:34:06 PM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. Thanks in advance, Harry Bouras |

Thank you Richard, according to your suggestion now has been working properly, but why did not previously set up DNS and can work?Because one (only) of the servers at Berkeley failed last night, at about 22:00 UTC. It's not a server we see directly, but one which enables us to see the other servers. The patch I posted enables us to see the other servers directly, without help from the one which failed. |

Thank you also, Richard. I am presuming that the IP addresses on those servers are very nearly permanent so I am going to leave those addresses in the "host" file. There is an issue with the servers just now (they went down at about 21:00 25th June) As it is the middle of the night in Berkeley just now we will have to wait a few hours for someone to get into the lab and sort things out. For those who haven't found the other thread on getting going again, here is a minor work-around that will allow you to access the appropriate servers for Seti till the server in question gets "fixed." http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=81638 HTH, Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

"very nearly" permanent is right. As you saw, I last checked and recorded them in October 2016 - we must have had a similar problem - and the same ones worked for me today.Thank you also, Richard. I am presuming that the IP addresses on those servers are very nearly permanent so I am going to leave those addresses in the "host" file.Thank you Richard, according to your suggestion now has been working properly, but why did not previously set up DNS and can work?Because one (only) of the servers at Berkeley failed last night, at about 22:00 UTC. It's not a server we see directly, but one which enables us to see the other servers. The patch I posted enables us to see the other servers directly, without help from the one which failed. But when I had to check them last October, I did find that one had changed since my previous check. So I'd advise that you take them out of service once the failed server is back up and running, but keep a copy for reference in case it happens again. The 'comment' symbol (#) is useful in cases like this. |

As my machines are currently not being used as they normally would it seems a shame to not let them crunch. So thanks to Richard for reminding us of the simple work around. Took just a couple of minutes on each machine. So now I can go and watch dads gardener mow the lawns and trim the hedges. ;-) |

I think DNS might be back - the Beta site is online again, and I've had a flurry of emails for today's PMs. Re-try any stuck uploads or delayed reports, using normal settings, before attempting any of the workrounds in this thread. |

I think DNS might be back - the Beta site is online again, and I've had a flurry of emails for today's PMs. I have uploads starting now..............albeit very slowly. But at least the DNS lookup is working again. Meow! EDIT.................. And new work is being sent. Meow meow! "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

... albeit very slowly."Results received in last hour" has increased ten-fold since this morning, and is still rising. Don't get caught in the crush. |

Apparently, there was a power outage in the lab. The DNS server stayed up, but lost contact with the network. |

Adding the following entries to my hosts file worked for me. 208.68.240.118 setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu # upload server Oct 2016 208.68.240.119 boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu # download server Oct 2016 208.68.240.126 setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu # scheduler Oct 2016 |
