I've searched the forums as best I could for information on this, and can't seem to find anything that will give me definitive information one way or the other. I recently fired my ISP after more than 15 years with them and have changed to another. Therefore, I have a new e-mail address. I've updated my account here on the website with the "change email" option in my preferences, and that's been no problem. However, what about the BOINC client software on all my computers? I have around 25 or so. Do I have to go to each client machine and change the account information on each one manually? If so, then how? I see no feature on the boinc client to "log out". Overall, it would be great if the boinc client worked just like the No-IP DUC client does. When one changes their account information on the main website and it affects the clients, then the clients are updated with that new information via the Internet automatically. |

The important email address is the one held on the servers. I think the locally held address may be updated after about 24 hours (provided the servers are working properly). Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Do I have to go to each client machine and change the account information on each one manually? No. Your email address isn't propagated to the client. The client works solely with an account key. While the account uses the email address as the unique identifier, the account key won't change when you change the email address. The only key that can undergo changes is the weak account key. This changes when you change the account's password, and therefore when you change the password you will need to change the weak account key on all devices that use it. Normally the strong account key is used. If you never manually edited any of the account_*.xml files to substitute the strong account key with the weak account key, you are still using the strong account key. You can check your account keys at https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/weak_auth.php. |

Thanks for the feedback. It's been so long for me, that I totally forgot about the account keys and the such, and the fact that there's an account number that never changes too. But what I've noticed was this. Shortly after changing my account email address to my new one, I went to set up a new client on a computer with my new e-mail address and it didn't work. I had to use the old address which is no longer available to me. I was expecting to be able to set up the new client with my new e-mail address. That "could" be a problem in the future if I need to set up a new client down the road, and can't remember the old email address. |

This only shows that the attempt to change the email address in SETI@home account was unsuccessful (any error message?) or you have 2 accounts and changed the wrong one? Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
