I am not against the death penalty because of the guilty (having very little sympathy with murderers) but the innocent wrongly convicted.

Similarly, I am not pro-abortion because of perfectly healthy consenting people who don't take precautions etc. I do acknowledge them the right, but with similar disdain to not wanting public nosepicking to be criminalized. I am not merely pro-choice, but pro-abortion, for rape victims, especially children, and if the mother's or fetus' life is in danger.

It's a complex shades-of-grey issue, one whose ethical nuances are lost in a world where everything needs to be simplified down to bumper sticker slogan size.
