Personally, I hope the mining rush crashes quickly and those that see their free meal ticket go poof realize that there IS no free lunch.
Then the SOBs will rush to vandalize and RMA their used cards to try to get new ones to sell from the suppliers.
Dishonest lot that some of them are.
Obviously not everybody. The ones that are buying up so many GPUs that they are screwing up the honest market for the rest of the people in the whole world.
Not the ones with a few GPUs doing it more out of interest or a hobby.
I hope they get what they deserve.

Am with you on that one.

Sick of idiots trying to sell off their 7 series and 9 series for over inflated prices. When I got my 980 a few months ago for $250 AUS 2nd hand most others were around $275 to $300 AUS but now going for $400 AUS. It's ridiculous.

I just checked 'bay here and I couldn't believe my eyes. Most of the private sellers are about right on price....plenty of 970s at around £120, with several hours to run, but there are a few private sellers wanting stupid money - inevitably, all the 'comedians' are companies trying to cash-in. I bought my Gainward Phantom back in December2015 and it cost me £200 for a 3-month-old fully boxed card - I've seen one company trying to sell two of them for a whopping £480 each. That wasn't the highest price I saw, either! Contrast that with a private seller, selling a matched pair of Gainward 970 cards, run for 45 hours with Heatkiller water-cooling, for £360. Tough choice.

I reckon Mark hit the nail on the head, with the comparison to a Ponzi scheme, but I'd probably liken things to a magic act....all smoke and mirrors.

Best one I've seen so far is this listing: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB HYBRID GAMING, "All in One" No Hassle Water Cooling

Ready?

$1600

Better yet, he even has 3 available at that low, low price.

So, shoppers, Buy Now!

Heck, why stop at just video cards? Looks like some PSU models are getting into the act too. And I'm looking at You, Newegg!

EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2 220-T2-1600-X1 80+ TITANIUM 1600W Fully Modular EVGA ECO Mode Includes FREE Power On Self Tester Power Supply On back order with them, priced at $549, but you can get it thru one of their marketplace sellers TODAY for only $600.

At least Amazon EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2 80+ TITANIUM, 1600W ECO Mode Fully Modular NVIDIA SLI and Crossfire Ready 10 Year Warranty Power Supply 220-T2-1600-X1 is still selling it for the normal, discounted price of $399, even though it too is on back order.

My guess the additional cost at Newegg must be that it includes the FREE Power On Self Tester?

Wait. I thought it was FREE??

Crooks, all (most) of 'em! ;-)

That's funny AL....

I'm getting ready to RMA one of those 1600W PSU back to EVGA. This is a replacement one that I got about a month ago for a prior one that failed.

But I'm beginning to wonder about it. I think there is a loose bearing somewhere (incessant noise from the unit that comes and goes)

Going to give it another week. If it doesn't improve then I'm definitely going to RMA it back.

Wow. I'm wasting my time just looking at the UK site. If I'd spotted those three gems, with the additional freight and Customs costs, I could've sold them for £2k+. Good grief, how sad it has all become! It sort of reminds me of the insane speculation reflected in RAM prices, following a fire at a RAM facility in the 90s......

An idea here Mark/Al and all ... Maybe take advantage of the over inflated prices and put some of your cards up for sale.
Then replace them with a $500 1080 :D

I just ordered from New Egg a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD 3GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Card for $229.00 + $4.99 S+H. It came into stock for a bit and now it's not. If it works as well as my EVGA 1060 then the GTX660 gets a well deserved retirement. I'll find out next week.

Hey Zalster, be sure you verify that they have replacement stock for RMA's, because even on EVGA's site, they are on back order. I would _hope_ that they reserve stock at their place for RMA's, because my bet is that they refurb the warranty ones that are sent in and ship them back out. Most companies do that.

I did have an issue with one of their PSU's that I had bought not terribly long after they went into the PSU business, and they were VERY interested in doing everything they could to make sure I was satisfied with the service I received. I even believe I got a new in the box PSU from them, but the, the issue happened within a month or 2, though with most companies, they don't care if it's a month old, they'll ship you out a 'used' one. That always chaffed my arse.

I hope you find that they have them available, and wonder if you might be able to talk them into a new one since this is your 2nd failure? My guess is no, but here's hoping!

Brent, don't think there hasn't been a time or 2 in the last few weeks where that thought had crossed my mind.. But nope, I'll just hang on to what I've got, and just sit back and shake my head at all the Yahoos. Gold rush of 1849 all over again, I tell ya. People never seem to learn it seems. The lure of "easy money" is just too great for a good number of people to resist.

Amazing! I have a 750 Ti low profile that has turned into my "back up" gpu whenever I need to shuffle things around. It fits every place (even SFF) and it don't need no wires... heck I sometimes I wonder if it needs a motherboard slot.... :D

Ethereum Mining Frenzy Leads To German Graphics Card Shortage, Retailer Pulls Cards
Cryptocurrency mining has led to a shortage of graphics cards among many retailers in the U.S. Now, it seems the problem is starting to affect companies across the pond: MindFactory, a German retailer, has removed many AMD and Nvidia graphics cards from its virtual shelves. The company confirmed in an email to Tom's Hardware that it had to stop selling the products because it can't get its hands on more graphics cards.
...
AMD and Nvidia have not responded to repeated requests for comment on the graphics card / GPU shortage, but if retailers are starting to pull products from their shelves instead of merely raising their prices or saying they're sold out, chances are good that we won't see the end of this shortage in the near future.

Well it looks like I won't be getting another 2 GTX 1060's anytime soon as the ASUS version I have have gone up $110 and the Gainward version is just out of stock.

Cheers.
