RBK&C in the news again...

"It is deemed as having an unacceptable and harmful impact by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea,"

Yet they still haven't rehoused the survivors of Grenfell Tower 7 months on

The fallout from Grenfell Tower for similar privately owned properties.
Residents asked to foot £2m bill to replace Grenfell-like cladding

Residents of a privately-owned London tower block with the same cladding as Grenfell Tower may be forced to pay up to £2m for replacement panels.
Citiscape in Croydon was one of 228 buildings to fail safety tests after the disaster which claimed 71 lives.
With 95 flats affected, each household share could be between £13,300 and £31,300, to be paid in instalments, the Guardian newspaper reported.
First Port Property Services said safety was its "first priority".

Grenfell Tower cladding failed to meet standard but the details of later tests were not disseminated in a satisfactory manor.

If the reports were available on its website, they are not now, and the CSTB was not able to provide them. The BBC obtained them through other sources.
Hmm, wonder how that happened?

Working on the edges of the safety and certification "industry" we all too often see "very poor" ratings being moved up one or more steps. Some of our clients are very diligent in their search for "good" materials. But some just look for the lowest initial price and assume we won't spot their corner cutting and get very upset when we spot the "cost saving" as being non-compliant with the regulations and tell them "No way Jose" and they have to start again (and we do mean "start again").

NEW YORK (AP) — The 50th-floor apartment in Trump Tower where a man was killed in a raging fire did not have sprinklers — a requirement Donald Trump once fought as a powerful real estate developer.

Leaked Grenfell dossier reveals how disastrous refurbishment turned tower into a 'tinderbox'.

A report prepared as part of the police investigation into the Grenfell Tower fire has uncovered calamitous deficiencies in the installation of the windows, cavity barriers and cladding system, and their failure to meet building regulations.

The 210-page interim document, by fire investigation experts BRE Global, is set to dramatically assist the Metropolitan police in their wide-ranging investigation. It was leaked exclusively to the Standard and recounts in forensic detail how the original concrete building was turned from a safe structure into a tinderbox by the refurbishment between 2014 and 2016.

It not only finds the cladding material and insulation was combustible, but also exposes hitherto unknown areas of incompetence relating to the design and installation of the windows and cavity barriers. The latter are critical in closing the gap between the inner and outer skins of the building to prevent a chimney-like effect in the event of a blaze.
Cheers.

No outright ban on flammable cladding
She will propose a tighter system of safety management throughout the life of a building in England, which would be led by the construction industry.
Another case of the fox guarding the henhouse.

Just wondering how large was that brown envelope.

And later in the day a subtle change of tone, one that now implies that flammable cladding should be banned, and the government might actually do it. ABT.

Hmm, where have we seen this before?

The design of the playground had specified durable oak to be used to support the swing, but a cheaper and less durable poplar wood was used, the inquiry heard.
An "organisational failure and lack of accountability" by the council
Sad

And add to that the fact that an annual inspection was missed due "chaotic and disorganised management was within the council".
The corner didn't accuse the council of deliberate use of the wrong wood, but
an inadvertent use of inappropriate wood" in the swing's structure by the designer and installer.
Which is pretty damming of the way the whole council was operating.

The emerging information about the cladding makes my blood boil.
Hopefully the company, and its directors will find themselves up in court on corporate manslaughter charges.
And then allow the civil lawyers their chance to chew them over on behalf of the victims.
