Vikings: killing machines and robbers but also merchants and state builders.
https://tommyhansson.wordpress.com/tag/normandie/

The Vikings were much more than brutal and sometimes inhuman killers and robbers (because they really were). In addition, they were slave traders and sold 801 for first - but by no means last-time Christian prisoners as slaves to Muslim merchants. They were skilled traders, and more: successful nationals who were involved in Russia's, Ireland and England's state building.

A furore Norman Norum libera nos, Domine!

There are some researchers at the center of medieval studies at the University of Western Australia, led by Shane McLeod, who looked at the bodies of old tombs.
Previously, researchers have assumed that equals buried with swords and knives were men (seems that the Vikings had less prejudice than most researchers), but by studying the composition of the bones on the body, researchers now found that out of 14 examined bodies were seven men, Six women.
So, in principle, there are as many women as men.
This also risks breaking the entire image of the Vikings as some who just came and raped and plundered England.
"Far more women than previously thought may have followed with male vikings in the early invasions of England," said McLeod. Instead of ravaging and robbing, the Vikings may have come to England to meet partners.
So the news that Marvelfiguren Thor becomes a woman in the future: Correct.

Here comes a Viking.

Finally got the book.
Anna Sundström's book, originally published in 1894, is still a great source if you want to learn about our Vikings.
Many stories about for instance.
Olav Tryggvason.
Olav "the Holy" Haraldsson.
Magnus The Good.
Harald "the Brute" Hårdråde.
Sven Tveskägg and Knut the Great that where great empire builders that conquered England.

And in Iceland they have found people with DNA originated from Indians.

Women are the same as men

Viking women had the same rights in society as men.
Not being a thrall that is...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrall

From the top.
Chieftains.
Jarls.
Free men/women.
Thralls.

The Viking woman had a respected position in society. She was considered equal to the husband in almost everything.
When the men were traveling, the women took care of the household and the defense of the farm, if necessary.
Adultery were severely punished, no matter which spouse.
On the other hand, a man could have several wives, if he only spoke about this for his first wife.
Children from such circumstances were considered to have equal rights to inheritance and other, like the husband's children with his first wife.

The wif of Bath..

In my local extended family we give birth to more females than males yet the males tend to outlive the women often by 10 years.. (I suspect we drive our women so crazy they just want to escape to halvalla..)

From the primary now culture of Britain and Christian and Muslim traditions there is a tendency to negate the social or political position of our women or the feminine.

The issue I have is that whenever we have women who rise they tend to seem rather 'right wing'or 'hard' in persona. (Perhaps that is the only choice.)

In virtually every culture though there are strong souls male or female.

I prefer to celebrate those whom however prefer to just be without side as they are the builders and creators.

Yes Vikings. Apes with horns.. > :)~

Just messy people like the rest of us humans....

The myth of Viking horned helmets started in the 19th century.

Vikings never met devils.
Maybe Hel.

And she doesn't have horns.
Her appearance is described as half blue and half flesh-coloured and further as having a gloomy, downcast appearance.

What not even in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell,_Norway

N.B. nearest railway station to Shetland.
Good for confusing army transport/logistics clerks when they try to tell you to use the nearest railway station.

Yes:)
I have even written about that place in the Thor thread some years ago.
Then we have Heklufjall in Iceland that is supposed to be a port way to Hell!
In Sweden still used as an expression "Dra åt häcklefjäll!" meaning Go to Hell.

In Shetland they have kept many old Scandinavian terms!
