G'morning everyone, from another frosty start in the highlands down under.

I've been doing a bit of pruning around the backyard over the last few days with my chainsaw. The tree that got storm damaged a few months back is now only 10' high after removing the 15' crown so it'll be another 15-20yrs before it becomes a problem again. I should have the last of that cut up and stacked today (if the back lasts) before I then reduce my crab apple tree down to a third of its current size sometime during the week.

So it has been thirsty work. ;-)

But being Sunday here I'm not allowed to fire up the chainsaw for a couple of more hours yet so Beer O'clock today will be a bit later than usual. :-(

G'day everyone, on this unusually warm winter's Good Friday in the highlands down under.

Well I'm finally enjoying an "on time" Beer O'clock for the 1st time this week after finally loading 75% of the crown of that 8m/26' storm damaged tree in my backyard into my 8'x5' box trailer with 4' cage (it's amazing how something so big can be reduced to something so small). At least I now have enough safe working area around the base of the tree to fire the chainsaw up again over the weekend and remove the remains of 2 branches and trimming 2 others so that it can grow a crown back from the 4 remaining base branches (2 of them 3m/10' high and the remaining 2 at 2.4m/8').

After I empty the trailer on Sunday morning (into the green waste section of the local tip) my crab apple tree will be clear to take the chainsaw to so that I can get it down to a more manageable 3m/10' and I can put a bird net over it to see how the fruit go as a cider (or something).

Anyhow, time for another beer. ;-)

The wife , me and Grandpa had some Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA yesterday while waiting for a realtor to show our house. We bought it in bottles at the local Kroger Grocery store. It was really delicious; nice hops softened with a good malt. We were surprised that it still tasted fresh and sweet since many craft beers here sit on the shelf for a long time since there used to be few upscale beer drinkers here in the south. It is 9.5 % alcohol so one beer goes a long way to giving you a good buzz.

I went to a friend's retirement party earlier this evening, and bourbon is more often than not the drink of choice around here in Kentucky, but I'd rather have a bourbon barrel stout:

We here in Tennessee take pride in our Tennessee Whisky. It is time for my annual pilgrimage to Lynchburg and Jack Daniel's grave.

Just brought home a growler of Pestilence Porter from this place. Seemed appropriate too, given the times we live in today...

Well it's amazing how it can take a person 3 days to load a trailer and just 1hr to empty it, but I got my Sunday morning run to the tip done (my back's about done to as well), so I'm going to relax for the rest of the day with a few beers with this unusually warm winter weather around here of late.

Tomorrow I'll think about firing the chainsaw up again and doing some more pruning.

Well I only thought about the chainsaw yesterday Grant, my back kept saying no, but I fueled it up this morning for another 40min run soon.

I was hoping to get the rest of the crab apple done today, but with the winds here today that job will have to wait a day or 2 longer until it's safer.

The wind hasn't disturbed today's Beer O'clock though as it is well underway. :-)

Well the wind just won't let up here and at 11C (feels like 2C) outside I'm not even going to bother going out there to load more cuttings into my trailer.

So I'll just have to think of something else to do for the next 2hrs before Beer O'clock.

Yesterday the high winds stayed away so I could remove the top of my crab apple tree and reduce the stems from 11 down to 6 at 9' high so that next season I can get a bird net over it to see how good a cider can be made from them (if they fail as a cider I can salvage the alcohol anyway), but the effort has near crippled me today so nothing is getting done today though hopefully tomorrow my back will be good enough to start chopping the remains up and loading it in my trailer.

Beer O'clock won't be missed though and that is now only 40mins away.

I hope that everyone is enjoying their favourite beverage.

They're certainly a cooking apple and very suited to recipes that require a lot of sugar to sweeten them up Grant which should mean that they'll create a nice crisp cider or an apple brandy if the cider fails. ;-)

Queensland and other states in Australia have strict rules about entering premises which sell alcohol.
In most cases, late-night drinkers in Queensland must have their passports or driving licences to prove their identities when entering establishments that stay open after midnight.

Yep it's law here Janne that if you want to enter an alcohol drinking establishment after 10pm you must have I.D. on you to be allowed to enter. :-(

Anyhow today my legs are working fairly well so I'll be out in the yard soon to start loading the trailer for another run on the weekend to the green waste section of the tip.

Beer O'clock here is now just 4hrs away.
