I noticed that I have WUs awaiting validation going back to the 1st of May 2017. Is this normal. I ask because I notice that some times my cobblestowns increase at times and other times they seem to not move.... Just wondering if it usually takes this long for validation? Thanks.... |

I noticed that I have WUs awaiting validation going back to the 1st of May 2017. It can take many months for validation, or just seconds. If the work unit goes out to a computer that never responds it has to time out and be sent to yet another computer. Same thing can happen several times. Might be months later when another computer finally reports a result to allow validation, or enough "errors" from timeouts and your work is thrown away. Oldest I have in the queue is from 21 March, which I see is before you joined! This is likely better addressed in Number Crunching than the cafe. |

Yes, the issue has been acknowledged here in NC a couple days ago. Back around April 1, the validators got stuck and when they got reset back to working, tasks that had been completed by both wingmen got forgotten. So you will have to wait for the original deadline date for those forgotten tasks to finally validate and clear. Most of those have deadline dates in the next week or next. I regularly have 1,000-1,300 tasks awaiting validation. I haven't noticed that it really effects my RAC as my daily credits are pretty consistent during the week when I'm not using my computer at all. I think it just takes a while for things to balance out especially when you're just beginning. |

Well I only have 62 awaiting validation, so I should not really highlight I guess. Just wondering what the situation was.......but would be a shame if those WU were for nothing.... |

I have three tasks still not validated but they are not in validation pending lists: They are 5787316643, 5787316645 and 5787316745... A couple of days ago when I first ran this test there were about 9 such tasks but I lost those data due to a crash... I will be running this test couple of times every week... I am afraid that there is a glitch in the system that loses some validation pending tasks... Note: my pending list as of now is 313 tasks!!! Seems a lot to me, doesn't ot? |

Note: my pending list as of now is 313 tasks!!! Seems a lot to me, doesn't ot? Not really. The more work you process, and the faster you process it, the higher the Pendings will be. The top 3 computers have over 4,000 pendings each. Many others have over 1,500- that's for just 1 computer. Grant Darwin NT |

I have 1900 pendings at this present time, but it's nothing to panic about as they'll eventually get validated. ;-) Cheers. |

I've got 2761 when I checked just now. That's out of 4595 so more than 50% are waiting. I run pretty small caches. A couple of my machines are running the cuda80 app which is quick. BOINC blog |

The size of your local cache has no significant impact on the number of "pending" results. The number pending is totally dependent on the relative turnarounds of you and your wingmen. All four of my crunchers are well above average so I have a very large number of pending results. Far more important is making sure that your "invalid" and "computing error" rate is very low. Far more important is making sure that your "invalid" and "computing error" rate is very low. Actually agree with that....I tend to check that number out first now then the pending list..... |

The size of your local cache has no significant impact on the number of "pending" results. The number pending is totally dependent on the relative turnarounds of you and your wingmen. Because you have less in the cache they turn around faster. Sure they take the same amount to time to run but they spend less time in a "ready to start" state. Think of those people who have 5 and 10 day caches, that's around 4.5 to 9.5 days before they even start them. The drawback is of course when there is an outage (like every Tuesday) you could run out of work but that's what other projects are for. I agree with you regarding the error and invalid rates, they are more important than how many are pending. BOINC blog |
